So dh and I are WTT but there are a few things that I want to know before we start TTC. I know that I want to try a home birth with a midwife. What is the best way to go about looking for one? And once I find one, do I contact them for a consult before I start TTC or wait until I have a confirmed BFP? Also, can midwives do prenatal checkups? Sorry if these questions sound silly, I'm new to the NCB scene and am extremely curious about it all.

You should be able to do a google search for midwives in your area...assuming it is legal for them to practice, they should be advertising. They do all your prenatal check-ups. Most will do a free consultation. We did ours the month before we started TTC. You can talk and ask questions, and go from there.

I contacted MANA to get names for my last HB - Midwives Alliance of North America (but I guess now it's on the Mother's Naturally Forum here - Find a Midwife or Find Midwives - Mothers Naturally)
We were living in PA and I was having a hard time finding a good one. There are lots up there, but most are lay midwives who service the Amish, and don't advertise (at least that's the way it was in our rural area). Anyway, I found one once I was pregnant and set up a consultation where we asked a TON on questions (many from here - Questions to ask a midwife - Beautiful Belly Laughs Midwifery ). It was a good match.

Feel free to interview more than one to see who you get along with best.

They will consult with you before or during pregnancy, however you prefer. Some people really find peace in having it all figured out prior to getting pregnant. I'm not that on top of things

Oh and yes, Midwives provide prenatal care.
