As we're on the homebirth bandwagon now, we are working on timing. We are moving home in may, in 6th months, back to our home state. I'd start work around June (hopefully) and we'd like to start trying in july... that would make us due before my first year of insurance is final .... yeah thats if we get pregnant on the first try, but hey it could happen

so the point is... do you think you NEED insurance to do a homebirth. Is it for emergency... or do you do it at all? Should we just wait until we get past that year mark for insurance, or honestly does it really matter? It would only be for emergency obviously and thats not more likely for me than any other woman, I'm young, fit, no major health problems....

thoughts here?

For Xander and Lucas we didn't have insurance, for Aiden we did but we didn't use it. Some insurance companies won't cover a midwife and some will. (Ours didn't). Insurance would be nice for the emergancies if you have to get transfered. I did have to go to the hospital once (not for the actual labor but for a feared complication... that turned out to be nothing a month before Xander was born) We got medicaid to cover that because of our situation at the time. Now I don't think medicaid would cover us. So I guess we didn't really NEED insurance.

My midwife would of been 3x more expensive without insurance. I would weigh your costs.
