So, what are everyone's thoughts on finding out gender via 'routine' ultrasound midway through?

We knew Cameron was a boy from the u/s. We didn't have an u/s with Ani or Fritz. Unless medically necessary I won't have an u/s with any future babies either.

I can go without if need be...I am not a firm believer in routine u/s, but not sure of the harm in it either. I really want to know with this baby, but thats not the main reason for getting the u/s this time around. Just because of some health issues I want to "make sure" the baby is ok.

I didn't have them with my dd's, but they were "routine" with my hospital births.

We just found out! I'm thrilled to know because now I can do her room all girly now in a "Camelot" theme and we were able to fill her closet already with dresses and hair bows! (I wasn't aware of any issues with getting an ultrasound...)

Thank you so much, Jessica "dettmer26", for the beautiful siggie!

I loved the surprise of NOT knowing with my first. We didn't do the midway ultrasound. With my second I wanted to know so I could be prepared...so we did find out. That was nice too. This time around I really wanted to know again so we found out (it's a girl). I like being prepared with gender specific items ahead of time. We'd gotten rid of ALL the baby clothes before becoming pregnant with this one. That was too bad since I would have been set for either sex. Oh well. I'm all for it if it's what you want and I think that NOT knowing is GREAT too! I wouldn't do routine ultrasounds unless it were necessary for some reason.

The world today is upside down because there is so very little love in the home, and in family life. We have no time for each other. Everybody is in such a terrible rush, and so anxious…and in the home begins the disruption of the peace of the world.

Well, I no longer agree with routine use of ultrasound in the first place. We didn't know for the first two, found out for the next three, and didn't find out with the last. We don't plan to have ultrasounds for this or any future pregnancies. Besides, DH has had a 100% prediction rate so far.

I can see the practical side of "knowing which to shop for", although that isn't an issue for us personally. It was nice to be able to talk of Baby in gender-specific pronouns. Using "he or she" gets awkward, and I refuse to say "it".

We didn't find out ahead of time with any of them so far and we won't with this one either. I just love the suspense and the surprise. That "it's a girl-or-boy!" announcement is way too sweet to miss out on! My homebirth docs don't do routine ultrasounds anyway. I did have one done already but that was because we were so unclear about the dates. But chances are I won't have another u/s unless medically necessary. And if I were to have one, the doc better not slip up and give it away accidentally. I'd be so upset to spoil the surprise!
