had furniture reupholstered?

Was it stupidly expensive? Worth it? Could you do it yourself?

DH and i are trying to figure out how to furnish this new house. We don't have to get much, but what we do get we want to make sure is going to last us a good long time.

We want to get 2 wing back chairs for our front room. The ones I love are $1500 a piece which is like waaay outside our budget. But I have found a few options second hand on kijiji that would would be super cheap and would be workable but only if we had them reupholstered.

uggh...Now that I've seen the $1500 chairs though, I'm afraid everything else will be a monstrous disappointment.

I think it depends on who you get to reupholster them. My grandfather had his lay-z-boy chair reupholstered and it only cost like $150 and it looks completely brand new. I have also heard horror stories so as long as you can get recommendations from people who have actually used/recommend the vendor, and can save some money at the same time, I would go with that option.
