Hi Ladies,

Cam and I were in a pretty severe car accident this last Wednesday. I was driving out to get a gallon of milk for Cameron. I was passing a semi truck and merged, with my signal, to get back into the right lane. Shortly after the lane change, an elderly woman pulled out in front of me causing me to t-bone her. Most airbags in both cars deployed. Unfortunately, Cameron was with me so my first thought was to get to him, and get him to safety.

We were both checked out by firemen and paramedics at the scene. Cameron's car seat did wonders! He didn't have a bruise mark or severe injury at all. He had a teeny tiny scratch on the inside of his mouth and that was it. I truly commend Safety 1st for their car seat performance. I on the other had hit my head pretty hard on the impact on the back of my drivers seat head rest and have some severe bruising/burn mark from the seat belt. No broken bones or whip lash. There truly was an angel riding with us.

The lady was deemed at fault and they are in the works of fixing my car. There was over 12K worth of damage done that they are paying to have fixed.

I tell you this to beg you to check your children's car seats. Make sure that they are installed properly. If you are unsure, take them to get checked out at you local fire department, sheriffs office, or police department. Today my city was doing car seat checks so I took Camerons car seat that is in dh's car to get checked and it checked out beautifully. So much so that we are now in a sheriffs office safety video.

**The insurance agency was refusing to pay for a replacement car seat until I provided some sort of documentation from safety 1st stating the car seat was no longer valid. I called Safety 1st and THEY are replacing the seat free of charge. I am completely amazed with Safety 1st and their customer service.

Here are some pics of the accident. My car did an awesome job of protecting us. I have a Dodge Charger.

Wow, so glad to hear you and Cam are ok! That looks like a pretty bad accident! I'm impressed they're fixing it rather than paying it out.

I have become a bit of a nazi related to Cam's carseat...we have roundabouts all near our home...our region is kind of a pilot area where they are testing them. People do not know how to use them, and they are currently not part of Ontario's driving tests. On a daily basis, I am almost hit in them, but I can't avoid them to get to my house. I am terrified we will get hit and Cam will get hurt, we triple check that its installed properly when we change which vehicle its in. He will be rear-facing for as long as I possibly can.

So glad to hear no serious injuries for either of you.

What I was told by the insurance adjuster is that they will deem my car a total loss if the damage is 80% of the cars retail value. If not, they will repair it. The guy at the body shop was very impressed because he could still start it up and drive it.

We have roundabouts here too. It seems as though people forget what certain traffic signs mean. If it says yield, that does not mean to pull out of someone in the roundabout. Ugh...I trust no one on the road.

Very glad to hear you are both ok.
Such a scary thing to be in an accident. Never mind when there's a kid involved too. Uggh...

I hope the elderly woman showed some remorse. It's amazing how difficult it is for some of them to admit they're at fault when it comes to age and driving.

Oh my gosh! How scary! I'm glad that you and C are okay. I completely agree about the car seat safety and that is really cool that Safety1st sent you a new seat free of charge!

No one around here knows how yield signs are supposed to work either.
