What's your favorite money-saving tip while cooking or grocery shopping?

I'm not much of a penny pincher but I did make a monthly shopping list for June so I didn't have to go shopping as much which does keep you from spending as much overall. I learned a great lesson though, I didn't plan for nearly enough stuff. I'm so darn forgetful! Hopefully my July master list will be much better. I tried menu planning too for June but that only lasted a week because I'm too spontaneous for that. I'll give it one more try with a better list next month though.

I save bacon grease in a jat in the fridge. I use it to make fried potatoes. Another good thing it's good for...when I make refied beans and I want to heat some up the next day, I put a teaspoonful on the top and microwave it. Then stir. The beans don't end up so dried out.

I save money when shooping buy buying in Bulk or cases. if I bought singles packages of things it cost more in the long run.

I also buy stuff like back bacon and other deli meats whole uncut since we go thro so much at a time.

I dont have a groc budget so to speak. I just grab the list get whats on it. The kids like to add thier things that they want or seen we run out.

Another one I forgot about is when I make tacos, I usually make about 3 lbs. ground beef. We don't always use it all so I put it in a container. I either make homemade hot dog sauce with it or use it in spaghetti later on and it gives it a nice flavor.

I read that somewhere in a magazine or something...I just can't remember which one ATM

The only thing I really try to do is avoid the little shopping trips that I always overpsend on. Run in for just one thing come out with a few bags. I am trying to not grocery shop more than once a week.
