Today I am making slow cooker drunken pork chops for dinner and it got me thinking about cooking with alcohol and having kids. I love to cook with wine and beer and other alcohol, desserts, dinners it doesn't matter, it's always good.

Does anyone with older children cook with booze? I think the amount is usually so little in comparison to the whole meal and a lot of it usually gets cooked off anyways right? I'm just curious if its appropriate - probably not. Oz is only 2 months so not something I have to worry about right now but I am curious about the future.

If I try to remember back I think I was allowed to eat my mom's chocolate rum balls at Christmas...

I think safe wise it is fine...like you said the amount is so small and usually alcohol cooks off. Now appropriate I guess that depends on who you talk to lol...some people may not think so...but I think it is completely fine

I agree that the amounts in recipes are usually so little and that it cooks off so it shouldn't be a problem. My kids are 5 and 2 and I am not worried about it. I'll be more worried when they are older (jr high and high school) when they might try sneaking some to drink. But for now, not worried.
