How is Sarah Beth doing in kindergarten so far? Jim will be starting next fall (unless we decide to wait a year--I'm not positive he'll be emotionally ready) so I'm interested to hear how it's going!

She has a rough time listening and sitting still, but she loves it so much. We practice every night on sitting still and listening closely. I've started reading one of her night-time books to her with her sitting on the floor and me sitting on her bed (kind of like she has to at story time at school). It has helped. She comes home with a smiley face about every other day... LOL. But she totally and completely loves it. She is trying so hard. I wonder if it would have been better to wait, but intellectually she was past ready for it.

Thank you to AlexAiden Mommy for my beautiful siggie!

That's what I'm expecting it to be like for Jim next year. His daycare person and I have been talking a lot about it, and she feels like intellectually he's ready now, but emotionally is a whole other story. Sitting still and following directions are not his strong points...although, to be honest, he's better at daycare than he is at home, I think. I've seen him sit and listen to a story MUCH better at daycare than he does when I read to him. So I'm hopeful he'll do better in kindergarten than he does at home.

I have a friend who is a former school counselor (now retired) and her daughter is a kindergarten teacher, and both of them say that with boys, they think waiting a year is the best. The counselor said, "I never heard a family say, 'I wish I hadn't held him back a year' but I had lots of families say 'Things would have been much easier if we'd just waited a year.'" We're going to go ahead and register him and everything, but if he seems like he's not ready next summer, we'll call it off and wait a year.
