I have a question for the women who work at home with small children, toddler age. How do you manage to get your work done during the day and take care of your child?

I realize some work can be done when your child is sleeping but what about the rest of the time? I know some mamas are fortunate enough to have help, whether it is paid or not, such as childcare or relatives/friends watching the children.

How do you mamas do it?

My son's older now, but when I did it prior to him starting school, I either put him in a playpen when he was small small with toys and he played near me, or when he got too old for that I set him up with an activity that wasn't too messy that he could do with minimal supervision. So he was still within eye sight but I was able to type and do other things. There was also nap time (which was a good 2 hours) and after he went to bed. My son's always had a very set bedtime and once he was down he was down so that left me quite a few hours after he went to bed plus his nap, plus time that he spent in a playpen or confined to an area playing. He was also good about sitting down and watching a movie for a little bit if I put a movie on for him.

Bedtime for me isn't until 1am. Until he starts preschool, that will give me 2 1/2 hrs during the day, but until then, it's generally after he goes to sleep.

They tear up my house....so I guess that says it all. LOL. I try to set them up with activities as much as I can, but they get so restless sometimes I just have to let them run wild and then when I'm done I put the house back together!

I also try to set her up with activities, but the majority of my work is done during her naptime and after she goes to bed.

I do as much as I can during naptime and after bedtime. My hubby is a HUGE help too...I try to set aside an hour or two during the late afternoon on Sundays and DH watches DS the whole time.

I run a daycare in my home, so I have extra kids too and it is really hard to do much besides watch the kids. I usually clean in the evening when my kids are in bed. Laundry is also done at night and I usually don't get to bed till 11pm or later!

Thanks Chelsea (Graysmama) for my awesome siggie!

I am mom of 5 kids and I had to put myself and children on a schedule and stick to it. I get a lot of what I need to during the day when three of the kids are in school and then when everyone is asleep. I make sure I am in bed by 11 so I get the rest I need as well. I make a list of things that need to be done the night before and then when the list is done I do other things. I hope this helps you and good luck it's hard to do
