Ever since Miles has started to eat baby food...he only poops once every 3 or 4 days. It's still a runny poop so he's not really constipated but I do think his tummy is bothering him after a few days of not going poopy. He doesn't sleep well and he has the worst stinky putts! They could just knock you out! When he does finally go...it's a lot and it always leaks everywhere.

I've tried babyfood prunes and baby prune juice but that hasn't seemed to help. I don't want to stop feeding him solids because he absolutley loves them! He loves every kind of baby food we've tried over the last several weeks...peas, greenbeans, sweetpotatos, prunes, pears, etc..

As of today, Miles has not had a poopy diaper since last Thursday afternoon. So we are up to day 5.

Do you ladies have any suggestions?

First of all, does his tummy look distended or tight? He's at an age now where he should be teething and that can effect his bm's too so I would say that if his tummy isn't hard and swollen then he's probably doing okay. Does he cry if you put him on his tummy, like it hurts him? Some babies bm habits change when they start eating solids, some do it more and some do it less. I can tell you from experience that when you do feed them solids it's normal for the smell to become "toxic" because that is what happened with Nick. I swear to you it smelled like something crawled up his butt and died everytime he passed gas. I would suggest that if you think it's a problem or he's showing some discomfort then call his pediatrician if for no other reason to give you peace of mind. You don't want to fix something that's not broken, KWIM? I would also say that if it's not hard and solid when he does go then I wouldn't suspect that he's constipated because the blockage would be a little bit more solid if he were. I hope this helps, good luck!

Thanks Rhonda...he did finally go last night and it sure was a ton! He doesn't strain when he goes and it's not hard so I know he's not constipated. I think what I'll do is pretty much stop solids for a week and then try again. He won't like that though...this kid loves to eat!

Jonah's pooping is a constant mystery to me - it seems it's always changing. The only thing I had to add is that bananas (despite common belief that they constipate) actually help aid in alleviating intestinal changes - so they help with both constipation & diarrhea. I feed Jonah a lot of bananas & it seems to help. We have been regular (knock on wood) for about 2 months straight now.....for us that means every other day...but he seems comfortable & content.
