So, as most of you know, I was induced at 38 weeks so that I wouldn't have to be pregnant past the point I lost Cora. That day was scheduled for June 7, 2007. On the morning of June 6, I went into the Dr. for a cervix check, to see if I would need to go in any earlier to start a foley catheter if my cervix was unchanged. Since it was, I was told to go in at 8pm that night (Wednesday, June 6).

I arrived at 8, and around 8:50 pm Dr. Crouch put in the foley (It had taken about 45 minutes alone to get my IV in. IVs are always really hard on me. This time, though, 30 of the 45 minutes was just taping into a place where it wouldn't move or hurt.) Ladies, that thing HURT to have put in!! They told me that it would take 6-8 hours to inflate and dilate my cervix to 2.5-3cm and then it would fall out. At that point they'd start me on pitosin. It made me fairly crampy, though, so they have me some Ambien so that I could sleep through that and have more energy for the next morning.

At one point in the middle of the night, I woke up very nauseated and threw up all over the floor. My poor nurses!

At 4am the foley came out, and I was dilated to 4cm, which was a surprise to Dr. Crouch. I guess I was responding better than he had expected. They asked if I wanted an epidural, and I said I didn't because the contractions really weren't all that bad (and I REMEMBERED my last experience). It kept going like that until close to 7am when a nurse checked me and I was a "very loose 7, almost 8." Dr. Crouch came in then and broke my water because Rielle hadn't dropped AT ALL, and he didn't want the very slight chance that her cord could come first (neither did I). He asked if I wanted the epi then, and I told him that it probably would be a good idea, since I anticipated that the contractions would come harder and faster at that point. He agreed and left, and my nurse left to page the anesthesiologist.

I was fine for about 20 minutes and then all of the sudden I started having really hard, VERY PAINFUL contractions that seemed to be focussed pressure on my cervix. My entire body was shaking and I was barely able to breathe through them. Oh, did I mention that my husband was still asleep at this point? I couldn't handle the idea of facing that kind of pain alone so I was calling him to wake him up. Actually, I was probably screaming at him, my perceptions of my volume at that point weren't too good. He woke up right as a contraction started and I really think it scared him to see me in that much pain. He walked over and started rubbing my back (which didn't help the pain a bit, but he kept reminding me that I would survive what was happening.)

He asked the nurse if I had asked for an epi, and she said yes, that they had been paging the anesthesiologist, but they weren't sure where he was...(turns out he was downstairs with a 2 year old who was going through surgery that day. That 2 year old happened to be a friend's son.) I remember hearing her say that, but it was like she was in another room, really.

At just about 8am he shows up, and apologized, and explained where he was. Bless his heart he got that thing in FAST and on the first try. I had to sign the papers during all of that though, and I could barely write my hands were shaking so bad.

Did I mention that epidurals are wonderful?

I honestly don't remember them checking me at all after they placed the epi (they had checked me right before he put it in). I just remember that all of the sudden Dr. Crouch, 3 nurses, and an intern were in the room, pulling up the stirrups, turning on the lights and whatnot. It was time to push!

15 minutes tops, and Rielle was here. Dr. Crouch asked Matt if he wanted to cut the cord, and he did! I'm so proud of him (but I had to ask him later if he actually did, because I couldn't remember. I was crying too hard that point). The nurse was telling me she was beautiful, and she was moving around, but she wasn't crying! Well, that's just because she wasn't crying, not because anything was wrong. lol.

They put this little wriggling, slimey creature on my chest and it was all over. I was completely taken. I think I'll remember that moment, crystal clear, for the rest of my life.

Thanks to babydoll213 for the siggy! My kids' blog Cora's blog

Congratulations, Brittanie! I'm so glad your baby girl is finally here! It sounds like you had a pretty decent experience this time, save for the puking, but that's a normal thing. Enjoy that sweet baby!
