I choose a word I would like Caoimhe to know the word for (or one that she is interested in), point to it or show her what it means, then say the word & sign it.

For example, point to a ball, say "would you like the BALL?" and sign it. Pick it up and say "Here's your BALL!", then hand it to baby and sign it.

If I can make a game of it, I'll do that too. We'll roll the ball back and forth to each other, and I will sign as I talk to her about what we're playing.

I make personalized metal jewelry for mommies, & more: www.caoimhelily.etsy.com

I do the same. I kind of highlight the word in an activity, so that he really focuses on it and understands what it is that I'm telling him

Thank You, Pattyandthemoos, for my beautiful siggy!

I pick a common word that he understands that we use all the time and will sign it. Each time i use the word i sign and i take his hands and sign it with them. And i keep doing it until he tries to sign it himself.
