Last night Joey spiked a fever. He was taken to CoH where cultures were drawn and antibiotics were administered. However, Traci, DJ, and the doctors were confident that it was just a stomach bug since he'd been complaining about his tummy and had vomited; therefore, he was released.

Unfortunately, the cultures have (already) came back positive. They're on their way back to City of Hope where Joey will be admitted again. Both lines are infected. Traci is understandably upset and is concerned that someone at CoH isn't sterilizing properly for this to happen twice within a month. (If you remember, Joey was admitted just before Thanksgiving and spent the holiday in the hospital.) While she plans to push them to release him so he can spend Christmas at home, it is unlikely they will do so. Policy is you remain in the hospital until you have had two negative cultures in a 48 hour period. (Cultures can take two days to grow.)

I'm so angry for them. Dang it, Joey needs a break. He's two-freaking-years old. He deserves to be home to experience the joy of Christmas morning!

Thanks to Jaidynsmum for my siggy!
