Pendulums can be made of many things:
A ring
An amulet of personal significance or
A needle
A pendulum crystal/stone

I didn't feel like using any of these. Since I'm pagan, I'm a firm believer in using something from the Earth (as I didn't have a crystal) I went outside and got a rock. It works. Of course, I ran it under water and then salt to cleanse it of the energy already attached to it. You want your pendulum infused with YOUR energy, so carry it around with you as much as possible, get to know it wink.gif

When holding your pendulum, it should hang straight, freely, and without obstruction. I like to have my elbow resting on my knee or table so that my arm isn't moving and there is less interference from me. When using your pendulum, make sure you use it with the same hand as you WILL recieve different results between each hand. Be consistent.
When starting off with your pendulum, you need to know how it works.
Typically a pendulum will move:

Yes – pendulum will swing front to back

No – pendulum will swing side to side

Unsure/Unable to answer – pendulum will move in a circle

Maybe (this is one I added, you can have however many)

Ask your pendulum each of these questions "show me yes" etc...and record their results. Go back a little while later (with the SAME hand) and see if you recieve the same results.

You can use your pendulum for more specific answers by using charts. These can be previously made/bought or you can make one yourself. They can be health related/love/finding lost items/ etc....you make a chart for whatever you want, or even just a generalized chart. Pendulums ending in a point are best to use since there are many options usually in a chart, it makes it easier to read which answer it's pointing too. Make sure you leave an area for the "unsure/maybe" field. I like to use a "?" as well. Perhaps you didn't ask the question properly and need to reword it.
There can be many answers in your charts...5 answers, 50...100... it doesn't matter. When making a chart, think of every possible answer for the best results.

Two ways of using charts that I know of is to start out with the pendulum in the blank,?, unsure area (whichever you use) and let the pendulum go to the right answer.....OR you can go to each answer and have the pendulum tell you "yes/no/usure" for each choice.

Just a word of warning to those working with pendulums please rememebr that this is what happens for most people - work with your pendulum and get to know it.

I lvoe this post!
Cause I know my weakness, know my voice,
Now I believe in grace and choice,
And I know perhaps my heart is farce,
But I’ll be born without a mask
