I do mean HANNAH MONTANA more so than Miley Cyrus. It's hard to judge one without judging the other, but I'm mostly thinking about the TV show / music that's Hannah, not Miley.

For the second part of the debate, feel free to discuss Miley.

My daughter absolutely LOVES her.Her room is decorated with Hannah montana posters, colurs etc etc,and she has tons of Hannah montana t-shirts,sweaters,shoes etc

Personally,I dont see why she´s so popular.I dont like her, infact,I find her anoying..but I respect my daughter and just go along with it.
But the fact that these days, there are all kinds of products with Hannah Montanas name on them is anoying, because her stuff isnt cheap and its always a "must have" with the girls

If she´s going to be on everything, everywhere, she could afford to be ALOT cheaper!

My 10 yr. old likes Hanna Montana and I'm ok with the show and some of the merchandise.

Miley Cyrus...I do like her one song "The Climb" but I think that as she's starting to want to do things that are not what I feel is appropriate for her, as a representative of Disney and someone who makes her $$ by catering to little girls, she should move on from HM.

You mean "sweet niblets!"?
I know what you mean, she puts her head down and kind of runs her words together sometimes.

I've only seen the show once or twice. I don't have a problem with her.

Uhmm not viewable in my house. I have nothing against her, but tv viewing is limited in our household, usually the girls pick something else to watch.

I don't mind it. DD is still a bit young to watch her on a regular basis (she is 4) but she does watch the show when she is with her older cousins.

The TV is pretty much always on in my house. For the most part we ignore it and do other things, but I personally can't tolerate silence so it's mostly just background noise. It's always set to Disney so that I never have to wonder if the kids are gonna see something iffy. They play Hannah Montana A LOT.

I don't have a problem with the show, and it doesn't really bother me. I know a lot of people think Mikey dresses like a hooker and has done some.. less than amazing-role model kind of things. But on the actual show I don't think Hannah or Miley dress inappropriately.

DD likes her and will watch her occassionally, but mostly she likes her music. She sings "the climb" and it is adorable.
I, however, find her incredibly annoying... voice, accent, vocabulary.... everything about her just grates on my nerves.

OK, lol DS watches HM lol. I will watch it with him sometimes. I agree the things she (Miley) is doing in public is not things I would say is appropriate for someone on Disney. I also think that if she is going to be doing more mature things/roles etc then maybe she needs to move on from HM.

I've never seen the show, and unless DD watches it at her dad's house I don't think she's seen it either. My kids like Nickelodeon more than Disney.
But DD knows who she is and HM is popular, so I've found no harm in getting DD a few HM t shirts.
Personally I've always thought Miley is only famous because of her dad, I've never seen any significant talent that would set her above the rest well enough to have earned her own TV show. I guess though since I don't really like her dad, that didn't give her a very good head start with me.

The show bugs the crap out of me but I don't think it's horrible. That being said, those kind of shows I don't usually like, there is no real "message" in her shows. I will fully admit I LOVED Lizzie McGuire, in fact I still watch it if I catch it on TV. I found the show adorable and usually had a good message behind the show. I love the show Degrassi and love that it deals with very real teen issues. Lily sometimes watches those shows with me, and I don't mind them. But I'd rather steer her towards those shows than hannah montana which don't really seem to have a point to the whole episode.

I do'nt really know her/the show well enough to decide one way or another.

But I do loathe the cross-branding of products ... it's very difficult to get a bike helmet, shoes, back pack, pajamas, bed sheets, etc. that don't have Hannah Montana, Spiderman or some other "brand" on it.

What happened to plain stuff? My kid's not a billboard, lol!!

Sorry, I'm going in a whole other direction, but when I think of Hannah Montana I thnk of all the crap that goes along with it. It just seems like such a manipulative way to create products that kids think they HAVE to have and mom and dad get suckered into buying for them.

YAY! So glad Im not the only non-teen that loves Degrassi! Seriously, my boyfriend gives me soooo much crap for liking that show but it ROCKS! I think its one of the few teen shows that is very "real" and shows very real and controversial subjects teen encounter in a way they can understand. Such as the eating disorder show, cutting, drunk parents, homosexuality, I LOVE it!

I want the DVD set

ME too!!!! It talks about the issues without glorifying them. Pregnancy, sexting, etc. I still watch the OLD episodes lol. Video | TeenNick — The Click. lol, Every Degrassi: The Next Generation episode....ever! lol. I had to catch up before I started Season 9. I wouldnt mind DS watching this when he got a little older. Way more informative than HM while still entertaining.

YAY WERE NOT ALONE! LOL!

I don't care for the old episodes that much, but some of them are neat. They stayed true from the first generation to the next, had very real issues in a non cheesy way. It wasnt the full house lessons "Ok kids, DONT talk to strangers! Everyones happy!" kind of episodes. LOVE THEM! Just looked at Amazon and the seasons seem to be about 20-25 bucks a season. Thats not bad at all!

Kevin Smith (Clerks, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Clerks II, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, etc) is a HUGE Degrassi fan. That show is older than the ages. One of his characters is named after a Degrassi character, although ****** if I can remember which one now.
