Do you think that women who pose for magazines nude (tastefully, mind you, I am not talking about crotch shots) are degrading themselves? Or empowering themselves?

How do you feel about run of the mill advertising, where women are often scantily clad?

What about topless dancers? Etc.

Personally, I think these things are empowering. Our sexuality is a wonderful tool that we have been able to get what we want because of it, for thousands of years. Men are easily led by a beautiful face. This benefits women far more than it benefits men.
I don't think that most of these women are exploited or that they feel ashamed, why should they.

I don't see what the uproar is about the human body. We were born naked, it's completely normal. I wish more people felt comfortable with their bodies to pose for pictures such as that. If you don't like the pictures, don't look. I find nothing wrong with them.

I agree with the "if you don't like it then don't look" which is why DH and I DON'T look or participate in activities such as going to strip clubs, watching strippers, looking at porn, etc........ its just not our cup of tea. I'm not saying that anything is wrong with it and I'm not saying that it is degrading or empowering to women...... I'm just saying its not something that we like or are associated. But to each their own, I'm not going to judge others by the things they do.... this doesn't make who the person is!

I don't think its degrading, but it isn't really empowering either. yes women get what they want becuase of sexuality, but I actually prefer to get what I want either because I'm right or had a good argument...or was actually deserving of it in some way.

I think that a woman's body is a great thing and never anything to be ashamed of. However, I also would prefer to feel empowered by my actions or my brain rather then my sexuality.

Ditto, ditto, ditto!!! Look at someone like Pam Anderson, great actress? No. Intelligent? no. Got where she is because of her big boobs hanging out all the time? Yes. I would be proud of that

Well, if someone has both, so much the better.

I don't see anything wrong with it at all as long as it is done tastefully. I love photography and some of the images I have seen of the naked female form are just so beautiful and empowering. I only have a problem when shots are done in a way that objectifies and degrades the woman (crotch shots and all that jazz )
Now, topless dancing, stripping, it depends. One of my best friends is a dancer, and she works at a really classy gentlemans club. She only takes her top off, the girls don't give lap dances or go up to the guys and take their singles-it's not that kind of an establishment. She has a backround in dance and she looks absolutely amazing when she is on stage-I think it's beautiful and not degrading at all. But on the flip side I've been to strip clubs where the girls are totally nude, and just shaking their stuff and rubbing it in men's faces for a couple of bucks. I think anyone who works in this type of establishment is totally degrading themselves. I think it comes down to the level of contact, the additude that a woman has. If she is displaying herself in a way that suggests-"I am a strong, sexy powerful woman and you should be in utter awe of my beauty" thats one thing. If it's done in a way that screams "I'm a sex object designed for your pleasure-do me now!" That is just utterly degrading and trashy.
