LOL!!! Not socially acceptable but it happens. I did it by accident a couple weekends ago when I was laughing. Opps! Good thing no one heard it.

Well,I certainly hope it's acceptable to have gas in public...definetly something NOT all people can have control over!! Having IBD,I find it VERY difficult to hold it it...a simple "excuse me" after having gas is appropriate.

I think doing it on PURPOSE is unacceptable, but sometimes it just comes out. You can't control it, so saying "excuse me" is all you can do.

My dad is awful about this.. I mean, he has Crohn's disease, but he's like a little kid with his gas - like he's proud of it or something..

I will if there is no way around it and the 'clench' system fails. Sometimes you cant help it..

OMG - why is it that every time I'm at the gyno or having anything done 'down there' I immidiatly have to pass gas? Am I the only one? Its hard to clench with a speculum sticking out of you!

I agree that it's bound to happen at one point or another. But doing it on purpose (in public) is rude IMO. I think that a polite "excuse me" after passing gas is appropriate. Now, at home, I think it's another story lol. Luckily my fiance thinks it's funny when I fart so he doesn't get disgusted by it lol. But then again he's one of those guys that thinks it's funny to fart on me or near me lol. (He doesn't do this in public though).

This is how it is at our house too. The only difference is my dh WILL do this stuff in public. He actually will do ANYTHING to embarass me in public. I always tell him I need him to walk 10 feet behind me, so no one will know we're together!

LOL - me too! I always get he urge to fart at the most inappropriate times.

My Dh tries very hard generally not to fart around others...but it's funny - for quite a while we went through a tough spot & didn't have a ton of company or go out much - so he got used to "farting at will" - so now when people are around - he forgets sometimes & lets it rip - and then I can see by the look on his face the "oops" factor sinking in & he gets embarassed - I think it's too funny.

I think farting in public makes everyone uncomfortable.

My little brother used to go to karate, the instructor would tech the kids not to say "ew" when someone farted.

So one time the teacher walked by and farted and I was next to my brother and said "Erik, did you just fart!?" and the teacher turned around and was like "shhhh".

They weren't supposed to say anything.

I was so embarassed!
