I'm wondering what all you ladies think the purpose of school is. In another debate, it was brought up that the grades don't matter but it's the experience and how you handle yourself at school that is important. Do you agree with this or do you think it's the grades that are more important?

No I do not agree with this, I am sending my kids to school to learn. While they are at school learning they better dang well be behaving themselves. I think it is important to know how to read and write, I intend to teach my kids how to act at home. I am not saying that behavior is not important, but that is not the schools purpose. I believe I know what poster you are talking about, and if it is the same one they also said that her and her husband have a hard time keeping jobs so they will reward their kids for attendance and behavior. I feel like it is my job to make sure they are at school, and to make sure that they are equiped with the knowledge of the proper way to behave, the schools job is to educate them.

I think if you are interested in what schools really are designed to do, you should read John Taylor Gatto. HERE is a link to his essay "The Six-Lesson Schoolteacher".

That is a total load of BS and I don't even know how to comment on how stupid that is.

LOL!!

Well I mean seriously, this guy has no clue. He thinks it's this way and it's total phooey. I just...seriously I really honestly don't know how to form into words how silly this is. Maybe I'll start a different debate to get more attention. Maybe I could learn what this guy is really trying to say or something.
