During the off-season (summer for most of us), do you challenge your gifted kids, keep them busy with non-challenging activities, or just let them veg-out and relax?

I let them do pretty much whatever they want... though they still have to do a little school this summer.

No one in our house ever vegs-out and relaxes. Ha. At least it doesn't seem like it!!

We are always busy with social stuff and housework, and I try to throw a little challenge in there for Hugo with the few homeschooling type activities we are doing. I try to be sure he has 1-2 challenging things a day unless we are out of town. He also does martial arts year-round and is up for another test soon, needing to practice his kata, so I am having him doing more of that at home too.

We've been really busy this past month but July will be a little slower. I still enforce bedtimes well with a little bit of leeway. They still have to do some school work every day.

Noah just finished T-ball last week & Lucy's big dance recital was this past weekend. So the big events are over. Lucy a couple of weeks off of dance & then back to summer classes. She's still doing gymnastics & vision therapy. But will be a little less hectic now.

They both want to try soccer but nothing starts until mid August.

We're mostly relaxed for the current 2 weeks. We've been really busy with camp. Next month, we'll do a little school (challenging stuff), a little busy, and a little relaxing. August will be busy. I'm also slightly relaxed on bedtimes during summer depends what's going on).

A little of everything. He does about 1.5 hours/day of reading or school type stuff. He has swim lessons, baseball, and archery. We also go bowling, go to the $1 movies, go to storytime and music mania at the library, trips to the zoo, museums, etc.
