Got her all dropped off at college. It wasn't as hard as I thought. There were some tears from Shane (those two are close) and he hugged her and didn't want to let go. That made me fill up with tears....which caused Kelsey to fill up with tears too. Then her mentor (they have peer mentors assigned to them to look out for them their first year and make sure they are getting involved in activities) was coming to pick her up and she showed up so that abruptly stopped our sappy moment. We said our good-byes and got on our way. My dh is having the hardest time with her being gone. He wants to call her all the time (I won't let him do it though!!) and constantly worries about how she's making out. I say no news is good news. She has barely texted me and really only called 3 times. Twice because she needed something and once because I told her to!!! Oh well - I am happy that she doesn't need to call all the time and I am happy to see pics of her on facebook with new friends from school. The next time we will go down to see her is September 23 when it's parents weekend.

On the bright side - no more late night messes in my kitchen after I go to bed. Hey - it's the little things.

I keep thinking back to my college days. It was great to get away, but I'm sure it was rough on mom and dad (even though I was only about 20 minutes away!). At least she's keeping in touch though, right? Even if she's just saying she needs something.

So glad the drop off went well and that she's being independent.

So sweet about Shane. I remember ds crying when dd went to 1st grade. I totally didn't expect it. It made me sad & happy all at the same time. Love that they have that bond.
