I don't know if any of you ladies are military, but if so i have a ? ...... my husband is in the navy and we just got orders to hawaii, we are so excited, but my son has down syndrome and if fed through a g tube. he walks on his own and goes to school in a special ed program....i do all of his tube changings at home ....his supplies come through a delivery service...we are seen about once every 6 months by a gastro specialist 2 hours away, but they don't seem to do anything other than write perscriptions....We really want to go, but have heard rumors that they won't let us because of wyley's needs....does anyone know any info on the subject ....thanks for any help you can give.

I don't really know the answer for this as we are not a military family, but I would think that they can't refuse the transfer because of wyley's needs. That would be discrimination and they could get in big trouble for that (or at least one would assume). If wyley's meds are delivered, then moving to hawaii shouldn't be an issue, because they would just be delivered there, and I would assume that you would be able to find a specialist there or fly to see his current specialist. I know we have done that to see my dds feeding specialist as they are 5 hours (7 driving with a 5 yo in the car) away. We flew that last time and it was much easier. I don't know who you would talk to to find out, but I would start making some calls, because it doesn't seem right to refuse the transfer because of your son's needs (like I said earlier, discrimination)
