I went to the gyn on Monday. I paid my copay as required and was referred for another procedure. I make the appointment but decide yesterday to call my insurance to see how much it'll cost. OMG it's an almost $400 ultrasound. No, not for pregnancy but an ultrasound is an ultrasound. I've had in office ultrasounds before with my cardiologist and never ran into an issue. I find out that for whatever reason the contract written from my insurance company to my gyn does not include in office ultrasound as being covered so I have to be referred to the hospital for one. I am livid over this for many reasons but #1 being the fact that there's no way I can afford this. It is a deductible that I'm having to cover. I already pay close to $300/month for my health insurance as it is and of course a copay each time I go or take the kids or what have you. What in the hell am I paying for insurance for?

I talked in-depth about all of this with DH yesterday and all he says "oh honey I'm sorry we can't afford to even make payments so sorry you can't have this done." What I need this done for is not a preemptive measure as there is possibly something seriously(not deadly)wrong with me in the gyn dept. and I NEED this done as a starting point to find out what I need to do next. I am [email protected] for not being a little more willing to try and figure things out money-wise. I know we just recently took on new furniture that we're paying monthly dues on and whatnot but I would rather us have NO furniture and me know and have a clean bill of health than to struggle every month with my health issues in this area. I know I do not help in this area as I am a SAHM but it isn't so easy for me to just go get a job. I know he does the best he can to cover all of our expenses and we cannot find a way to come up with this money. I'm going to ask that maybe we can at least start saving so perhaps by the end of the year I can get this done.

[email protected] way our health insurance works in this country. [email protected] fact that they for whatever flipping reason get to control how our money that we pay gets spent and they can decide what is/isn't covered. It is almost better to be poor without private health insurance than to have a job and have private insurance. *Note I'm not speaking ill of anyone with state insurance as I've had it before and it was great because it paid for literally everything!!!*

Thanks for letting me vent. Feel free to respond.

(((HUGS))) I know what you mean! We have medical bills coming out our ears right now. I have an appt tomorrow to go in and I really don't want to, because I know it is going to end up in another bill. Could you talk to your hospital and see if you can work something out. I know our old hospital would do that, they would rather see some money rather than no money.
