Okay I work nights for a Gym. Now the reason I owrknights is because DH works days and we need a little extra money and can't afford daycare. So I work all night and am up all day with the kiddos.

Now we go thru managers like every month. And I am the only person on graveyard that actually goes to work. It is sooo hard to keep a person on that shift so normally I owrk 6 to 7 nights a week which sucks. Okay I put in for Vaction like 3 months ago. And bought the plane tickets so the family could go to DH's grandfathers 80th birthday party. So my new manager askes me if I HAD to go. I obviously told him yeas, and that the tickets were already bought. He said that since I was the only one working grave that it woud be very inconvient for me to leave at this point. Okay fine if the club wants to reemburse me for my ticket then I will stay and work. Oh No..he said that since he didn't approve it himself that I can't go and no money will be reembursed.

Hell No! You are making me work 6 to 7 days a week for crap pay and now telling me that i am out of 200.00 for a round trip plane ticket. I am so frustrated! I was so mad that I just looked at him and walked away.

So he worked last night (thats why he dosen't want me to go...he has to work the shift and he hates working grave) and has been calling me all day today. I haven't picked up the phone because I am still so mad that he is trying to pull this crap on me. I am so going on Vaction and he can kiss off if he thinks I am staying here.

Well he left like 7 messages on my machine..wondering why I wasn't picking up and if I was coming into work. I need this job..but not this stress.

I went through the same thing at my last job and thats when DH decided that I needed to be a stay at home stepmom. We can afford it though. Who did approve your vacation? If another person approved your vacation then he will just have to deal with it because you gave plenty of notice. It sounds like to me that he wants the pay but not the work. I hate people like that. Maybe it is time to find another job after you get back from the birthday party. I wish more employers would realize that an employees family is more important than any job. Blood is thicker than water!! I hope that you do what you feel is right!! Good Luck!!

Go on your trip. Hopefully someone actually approved your trip and in writing them months back. That manager has his nerve. Heck no. You go on your trip. You have no reason to feel guilty either about it. They tried to pull that last August. There was a 50th anniversary party on dh's side of the family. It was 5 hours out of town. Family we had not seen in a long time were to be there. I asked for 3 days off. Took a total of 5 days off. 2 days which were my weekend were my regular time off. (work every other weekend) We had 4 days reserved in a hotel. Took the day after we returned off to unpack and unwind from the trip. But never told work I was to be back that Sunday night. Well at the time we were short a cook. Some upper management person said to my supervisor to tell me to shorten my trip. So my supervisor tells me what they wanted. But says not to worry take your trip as planned. That I told them 2 of the 5 days were my weekend off. That technically I only asked for 3 off. I said heck yeah I'm taking my trip. That wth we get paid vacation days and they don't want me to use them. This upper management person was mad I went for 5 days. I told them this trip chose us. We did not choose it. That if it were us just planning to go somewhere. I might change it to something else. But my family comes first before any job. My supervisor agreed. Although she greatly missed me being at work since we were short staffed. I think the nerve of some bosses who would tell you when and if you can have a vacation.

IIIIIIIIIII HATE JOBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a job that used me like that. It was over a year and a half ago yet I STILL get very angry every time I think about it!!! WHY do ppl think that they can treat others like this?!?!?!

Go on your vacation girl. There are PLENTY of jobs out there that need someone to work nights and be dedicated to it (you sound like you are). If he tries to raise a stink tell him where to shove it and get a new job.

Wow. I would definately go on your trip!! It's not your fault that no staff will stay at that job, I really wouldnt worry about it

That sucks. Hopefully everything works out after your vacation.

Yikes... I used to work as a supervisor at a small company out in Hawaii... when someone didn't come in, the person who was already in had to automatically pull a double or walk off and be fired...

I remember one week... I worked 16 hours a day, seven days that week... Not to mention that travel to and from work took an hour each way.... Well On the 10th day of working 16 hours straight.. the 2nd shift person didn't come in...

Oh my god... I went ballistic and called headquarters... I was like LOOK... I've been here 10 days, 16 hours straight... You're already paying out the arse overtime because of this... NOW the new supervisor you guys sent down has NOT showed up for this shift... I am currently on hour 19... I am exhausted... I want to go home, but we have no one here other than the regs... and they can't handle the computer systems and alarms and clearances for the vault... Get someone down here NOW!

On hour 23 of me working they got someone in there... Then they gave me 5 days off... paid leave... I give them credit.. .at least they REALLY went above and beyond to make up for that crap... It never happened again... LOL... Sure I still worked doubles as a volunteer at times, but mostly we never had a problem getting people to work after that....

Anyways... totally off subject... but god do I KNOW how you feel!
