I really want to make the kids' costumes this year but I am having zero ideas! Coral will be in a 12-month size and riding in a red wagon - maybe decorated? - my 5 year old will be in a 12/14 or thereabouts (yes she's huge!) and loves stuff that's cute - she's told me she wants to be a rainbow. Yikes! My son is nearing 8, in a size 7, and he wants to be something scary and/or gory. I don't want to go too far with that because I don't want him scaring little kids. I just cannot think of anything! I have a sewing machine but my skills with that are extremely basic. I can sew by hand. I also wouldn't mind cutting/gluing/painting objects to be part of a costume. Where can I look for ideas that aren't impossible to copy? Help!!

p.s. - I would love seeing costumes anyone else has made for ideas and inspiration!

I made a slice of pizza costume. It wasn't too bad. I took a piece of foam board, cut it out into the shape. I took a piece of pale brown flece and rolled it up to make the crust. I cut the toppings with craft felt for mushrooms, black olives, green peppers, and pepperonis. I used bright yellow fabric and sewed the toppings on. Right now the yellow fabric is just pinned to the board. I need to hand sew it on and add some ribbons so I can tie this contraption to her. I'll add pics soon.

For the rainbow you could use the foam core board as well and pin it to the front of her, and maybe have her wear something bright with it, and add rainbow socks or something for a little added flair. You could do cute puffy clouds at each end of it too, that would be cute!!

As far as the others you can just browse every costume site out there. You don't have to "copy" them, but get ideas for characters and stuff. You can make a Frankenstien that isn't too gory, or a mummy, or whatever you want. It just depends what your little guy is into.

You could make a "Cereal Killer" costume hehe DH wants to do that if Kaylee's born by Halloween. It's easy. Get a t-shirt, make some holes, splatter some "blood', & attach the empty Fun Size cereal boxes to the shirt.

We usually make our own costumes every year. I may be Velma or Ugly Betty again, depends on if I'm still pregnant hehe
Thanks to tasha_mae for my siggy!
