I haven't been super active here, but I do lurk a lot. DS was born via c-section after an induction, 26 hours of labor and 4 hours of pushing. According to the doctor, his head was not engaged, but he listed CPD in my chart. My doula thinks it had more to do with DS's head being big and being sunny-side up.

Anyway, my new ob is very VBAC friendly and thinks I'm a great candidate for VBAC, but wants to watch Baby's size closely. He will not induce me with pitocin, but said I'm welcome to try anything I want to get labor going after 38 weeks. They will let me go to 41 weeks before saying it's time for a c-section. Because DS was 8#6oz at 38 weeks, they've had concerns that this baby will be just as big or bigger.

I had an U/S today and Baby is measuring just under 6lbs. They were hoping to see him between 5.5 and 6#, so he's hovering right in the top part of that range, but still within range. Meaning, if I deliver between 38-40 weeks, Baby will probably be 7.5-8.5#. His head is measuring a little big, but we expected that since DS had a big head too.

My cervix is still very long (3.9cm), so the U/S tech said she wouldn't guess I'm super close to labor, but that can change quickly, especially since my body has done this once already.

Anyway, there's my big update!

First, be VERY careful.... the dr seems to be using size as any indication to whether of not you can deliver vaginally and that has nothing to do with it. Is there a medical reason why he's monitoring the growth? I had 2 u/s during my pg.... 1st was at 6w something and 2nd was for gender scan. Nothing after that. I'm VERY leery about dr's who monitor you for no reason at all just so they can have something to use as an excuse for a c/s. Never mind the fact that u/s is not accurate at determining weight!

Just an example to you as to how subsequent babies don't always weigh more.... #1 was 37w at 8lbs7oz, #2 was 35w5d at 8lbs12oz (both were c/s and NO reason for it) and #3 was 35w1d at 7lbs3oz (my VBA2C baby-15min pushing). The growth scan for #1 2 days before I had her was off by over a lb.

You shouldn't have to be on the clock either. Babies will come when they are ready. The automatic c/s at 41w is ridiculous, IMO. On a side note.... I was TOTALLY closed and had no effacement right before my water broke. Anything can happen at any time and them checking your cervix tells NOTHING as to when the baby will come. Don't stress over it, girl. You have a doula and hopefully the two of you can combine minds and not let this dr push you around come delivery time. Hang in there!
