Hey ladies,
It has been a long time since I have been able to log on and post anything do to my military committment. I actually just came home from a TDY to Las Vegas yesterday...

I have a situation... I cannot elaborate on the details but I am deploying to Afghanistan soon and will be gone for some time. My husband and I have been trying for #1 off and on for a few months. We really want to start a family. I also do not want to go where I am going nor for the length of time we will be gone. I want to support the cause and do my job but I am scared for reasons I cannot say. The only way I can get out of going is if I am pregnant...

Would it be wrong to continue trying (in full force) knowing all this? I don't want to skate out of my duties and I actually wanted to go but there have been changes that have scared me out of wanting to go.

Help!

Thanks!
Jessica

I don't think it would be wrong at all. You have been trying up until now. If you had not been thinking about TTC, and suddenly wanted to because of the deployment--I'd say no you shouldn't. But I think it would be fine. Go for it, TTC vibes to you!

If you're meant to have a baby, you will.

If you're meant to go the desert, you will.

I would keep on trying if I were you!LOL

When I got pregnant and had our daughter, that's when I decided to hang up my BDU's! I LOVED being in the military, but WOW my views changed when I had our first! My husband was crossing into the flying side, and I decided that I wanted to be home with our kids when he deployed and not have to worry about ME getting deployed at the same time!! I know exactly what you are going thru!! I missed going to Afghanistan with our first, and the only thing that saved me, was she was still a newborn, just under 4 months!! It's a hard decision to make when you have kids!! And I applaud women that can do both! I just had alot of fears from my childhood come into play when I had kids!Long story! But I figure I served my 10 years, and now it's my turn to serve in a different way, and support my husband in his career, and take care of the house and kids!

Thank you for all of your responses! I know that trying is not going to guarantee anything but I feel a bit guilty for wanting it to happen more then ever before!

I told my husband, who is prior enlisted, that I would hang up my adventurious hat when we had a child because it is very important to me to be there for my family and not put myself in any more risk or take me away from my family.

I am a strong believer in that everything happens for a reason so I will follow that and make the most of it. I only hope I can be strong for myself and my family either way...

Please don't feel guilty in ether avanue that you pick. Like the saying goes, "Motherhood is not for Whimps" and neither is Afganastan!!! If you feel that this is the time in your life when motherhood takes priority over a deployed career then that is what you should strive for. And what ever you choose, do it to the best of your ability and enjoy every minute of it. (well as much as possible)

Hope to see you around here more often.
