I received a Safeway flyer the other day and for the first time looked through it. Even though I do collect airmiles, I genarally do not normally shop there as the prices are quite a bit higher than the other grocery store. I noticed they had several specials where if you bought 5 safeway brand products you would receive 50 "bonus airmiles". There where other specials (like brandname toothpaste, advil, shampoo etc) that if you bought three products there were an extra 30 and 40 bonus airmiles. The prices on all of these items were very competitive. Yesterday I bought 11 items (things I would use) and earned 120 airmiles!

It only takes about 1,250 airmiles to fly from MB to Ontario for example, so I started to do the math. If I shop once a week there and (very important) buy only the advertised specials with bonus airmiles (stay away from the other products as they are very expensive - that's where they make their $) then it won't be long to collect enough to get a free trip :-) www.airmiles.ca

The one thing to keep in mind is that each group (5 items for 50 or 3 for 40, etc) can only be used once per collector per visit. So if you buy, say 10 items out of of the 5 for 50, you will still only get 50 airmiles and not 100. Does that make sense?

Hopefully someone else here can have fun doing the same thing

Great idea! We don't have Safeway out here on the east coast but I love racking up airmiles.

We started putting everything we buy on our Mosaic Mastercard that gives us 1 airmile for every $20 (and then paying it off right away). Since we started doing that, we've gotten a lot of airmiles too! Not to mention that Sobeys also has airmiles deals so when we shop there with our Mastercard we get double airmiles on everything.

Do you have Dominion grocery store? They are a conglomerate of Safeway I believe.

This week I earned 428 airmiles and last week 403. It is only 1000 airmiles right now to fly to winnipeg to toronto and back. Hard to believe $250 in groceries is almost enough to get you a free trip!
