An easy alternative to harsh cleansers for the oven is to take a heatproof dish and fill it with water and place it in the oven. Turn the oven on at your average cooking temp and let the steam soften all the baked on grease and grime. Make sure to keep an eye on the level of the water in the dish so you don't run it dry.

After steaming the oven let it cool down and then make a paste using equal parts of baking soda, salt, and vinegar. Use that as a scrub to get all the baked on stuff off!

Does anyone have any other suggestions on cleaning the oven?

That's exactly what we do for the microwave! Works like a charm!

I also use borax if need be to get the grime off!
