I'm not a mom (or pregnant) yet but I am planning to go through treatments with sperm donation to become pregnant and have a child to raise on my own. Is anyone else out there like me? I figured this might be the best board to ask at.

I'm here intermittantly.

If I don't answer your questions in a timely manner, I'm not mad, I just haven't had the chance to log in for awhile.

My donor conceived school aged child is my youngest. His older siblings were conceived within the context of relationships that later went sour.

It's not easy to raise a child by yourself, but it is much easier than raising a child in a bad relationship or coparenting while decoupling from someone who does not share your values or your parenting philosophy, in my experience.

I have no regrets, but I may not always have relevant experience for your situation either, so I hope a younger first time mommy will chime in.

Have you found this board yet? Our Community | Single Mothers by Choice

There is also a Facebook group for SMCs and women who are considering becoming SMCs.

I have looked at that website, but am wondering if the membership fee is worth what you'd get with a membership. Although since I'm not planning on TTC for another 18-24 months the community might be a good idea, if only to keep me sane until then haha.

The Facebook one is free, but it's a closed group and I can't get you in because I'm not on Facebook any more.

I hope another SMC or future SMC shows up. I haven't met anyone else here, but I'm not very active and tend to flood the board and then disappear.

I'll bump your thread from time to time if I don't forget.

It took me two years to get a BFP because of my age (over 40) so it's been close to a decade since I was where you are now and I probably look back through rose colored glasses.

Enjoy the journey!
