Are books better then the movie?

What do you think, do they mess up a book when they try and make a movie out of it?

I think its best to read the book first then watch the movie. IF I do it the other way i am picturing the movie the whole time I am reading.

I almost always like the book better. And, I definitely like to read the book first, and THEN see the movie, rather than the other way around. Seeing the movie first ruins the book for me.

Most of the time to us the book is better. There are those rare occasions when a actor/actress just brings something to the book that makes the movie that much better. Other times there is no compairing the two LOL, they take the movie to a totally diffrent place than the book actually went.
in other words my answer was other LOL

Sometimes I like movies better because they are simpler and not so technical - like Michael Crichton books. His books are awesome but heavy in techinal language, but who would say Jurassic Park was a crappy movie? No one!

This is my general take on it ... if the movie is based on the book, the book is USUALLY better (but as Ashley said, that doesn't necessarily make the movies bad). However, if the book is based on the movie, from my experience, the books generally suck
