Hi all, I'm looking for a seat for our newborn (expected in December) to be used exclusively in DH's truck. DH has a Toyota Tacoma access cab, the kind that doesn't have a full back seat. It does have LATCH back there. I've installed a friend's Graco Snug Ride and also a Britax Marathon (front facing) when I used to watch her DD. It was not a really comfortable experience to drive with the infant seat (and I'm only 5'8" to DH's 6'4") so I'm trying to find something that will allow us some type of breathing and leg room up front. We could theoretically disable the passenger air bag and put the seat up front (and me ride in back), but I'm not sure that's the greatest idea.

So my question is this - which type of seat would give us the most room in his truck? A rear facing convertible or a traditional infant seat? The Britax was better than the Snug Ride on room but I did not get to use it rear facing. I wish I had. DH's truck is not the primary vehicle (thank goodness) but if a convertible will give us more room then we may as well invest in one since we can continue using it later.

IMO a convertible takes up less space. In our vehicle anyways. DH would 'eat glass' as he puts it (he is 6'2 I am 5'5) when she was in her infant seat, its soooo much better now with her convertible.

Eventually you will want a convertible in there anyway. Infant seats (even the ones that go to 30lbs) won't work for a rear-facing toddler, so you may as well find a convertible that works for you. I know that Babies-R-Us will let you try their floor models in your vehicle... you might just want to take an afternoon and see what fits.

For a secondary, I would just get a convertible.
