Can someone tell me the size in width of the convertible car seats that are recommended - ie. which are widest and which are most narrow?
Also which ones take up less space rear-facing so that we still have some leg room?

Also, has anyone owned both a marathon and a recaro signo? can you tell me which you like better and why?

I don't own either of the seats that you are asking about, but I've read that the Recaros don't give much room for leg room rear facing or leg support for forward facing.

You're going to want your child rear facing for a while longer, I'd hope another year at the least... going until 2 years of age would be great!

You'll probably find that the seats that allow you to harness longer (higher weights) are going to be bigger in size than those seats that only allow you to harness to 40 pounds.

Try checking out www.car-seat.org and reading some reviews of seats. Often times the person doing the review is posting measurements as well.
