In a seat with just a lap belt?

I have a mini van, an older one that only has the sliding door on one side.

Both my kids are still Rfing- Kenzie is 29 months and Charlie is 9 months. I have been experimenting in all the different seats in my car, and honestly its starting to bug me that i cant have the seats where i want them, lol

I can put one seat behind the drivers seat and one in the very back, but then i have to drive everywhere, there is no way DH can even get in the front with how far up the seat has to be. I drive with the seat all the way up already, so it never bothers me ( i have short legs, lol)

Ive tried putting them both in the very back, but being RFing, it makes it so difficult to get them out of the car that way, especially when they fall asleep and we want to get them in the house without disrupting them too much.

My ideal positioning would be one in the back, and then one in the middle row, in the middle seat. However, the middle seat only has the lap belt, and i cant seem to get a super tight instal with the CA that we have. When i had my britax, it had the locking clips on both sides and the carseat had such a tight install.

I guess if it really came down to it, i can always give my mom one of my CA's for her car and keep one of the marathons for mine, and use it in that middle seat instead.

We have 2 marathons and 2 CA's, since my kids go to my moms a few times a week to be babysat, its just easier for her to have her own seats.

Any suggestions? Is it even ok to have a carseat in a seat with only a lap belt? Any ideas on how i can get it tighter?

Yes, any harnessed seat can be installed with a lap belt only. If you can't get a good install with the CA, give your mom one and put a Marathon in its place.

I don't know how you can get it tighter since my tricks for installing a CA have to do with LATCH or a shoulder belt combo. Are you using a towel or noodle with it?

Yes, im using a towel, the noodle never worked that great for us, i feel more comfortable with the recline with a towel.

I guess i will have to use the marathon until we turn DD FFing, its not that big of a deal.

Ill wait to see if anyone else has any ideas before i make the official switch!

That's the only thing a lap belt should be used for (installing a harnessing car seat). Make sure you use a locking clip if the lap belt doesn't lock.

Thanks ladies, i just went ahead today and switched the CA out with our MA. Charlie seemed pretty comfy in the MA for now, so this will work. I think ill just use the MA until we turn Kenzie around, and make it a little easier to have both of them in the backseat, or until i get a new car or van.
