My daughter is almost a year and while she is only 17lbs, she's already at the length limit for her Graco Snugride. My question is - how important is it that she be under the length limit? She still has five pounds to go and since it's such a great car seat, I'm hoping to keep her in it as long as possible, esp since it's a rear facing car seat. IMO, I think that if she is a little long for it that's okay compared to weight...but I'm not sure?

I'm assuming you are talking about the stated height limit? We say a seat is outgrown by height when their head is within 1" of the top of the shell so if she still has more than 1" above her head, I'd keep her in it.

I'll have to check - to me it seems she actually has a couple inches to go (she's very, very small for her age) so hopefully we can keep her in it until we get her brother his new carseat and she can have his.

Some babies are all legs. My little guy is on the second height for his SS1, but his feet are starting to hang over the edge of the seat.

If your almost 1 year old fits in it, I would double check the weight limit. The 22lb version is pretty short, and many babies outgrow it by 6 months. Not saying your baby doesn't fit in it - it's just more uncommon with this seat.
