Since i've read here that fleece jackets are safest for baby i'm wondering if maybe we could compile a thread of places to buy such jackets??

Here are a bunch! I like the first (blue) jacket but i wish it had a hood
Fleece Jackets and Pants at REI.com

Feel free to add more! I'm going to post in my PR when it gets closer to winter

Old Navy has fleece jackets for kids of all ages, and buntings for infants.

We buy Columbia fleece jackets, I order them from columbiasportswear.com

WalMart had some in the kid girl section for $12 when I was there yesterday. They were cute, light blue, pink and purple.

LL Bean has infant/toddler coverall type fleece. They're kind of pricey, but they'll do the job!! I might order Levi this one.

HOW CUTE ARE THOSE?!

This is what I'm getting my girls this year. Both are Columbia.

Isabel: The hood has elastic around the opening, it fits snug around the face. I love this style, it keeps her ears warm and no wind from getting in the hood. Most hoods are too big for kids, but not these.

Just popping in and was looking for this exact type of question! I love this one
Columbia Sportswear | Ella Graceful Jacket-Baby
Do you think it is as safe as the regular fleece and not too poofy? I just worry that just feece won't be warm enough in the winter.

I think that will be thicker than just fleece. And the insulation in that coat is polyester, which is not as warm as fleece.

I see your location says "Hoosier girl" ... I'm also in Indiana. For the past few winters my girls have only worn fleece. Brinlee did have a regular coat that she wore to play outside in. But for everyday, we only use fleece. My 2 year old didn't even use her regular winter coat last year... I sent it off to Once Upon a Child with the tags still attached! They're very, very warm. I only wear fleece in the winter too. They hold in heat. They "look" like they aren't going to be warm because they're not thick... but often the thicker type coats aren't actually very warm because they're filled with air (that compresses in an accident- which is why we advise against them).

I live in MA, and last winter, both my girls wore fleece while we were out and about. They had blankets in the car. I started the car before we left (if possible). The only time I really worried was walking from the car into someplace, but I'd cover up their faces as much as I could and make a mad dash for it. The 2 minutes outside won't hurt them!

If we were playing outside, they absolutely would wear the so-thick-you-can't-move snowsuits, but just being in the car and popping in and out of places, the fleece is plenty!

I went in to Columbia this weekend to look at fleece and I saw the jacket that you linked to. Its alot like my Columbia Jacket which isnt puffy and very well insulated. I actually thought about getting one in pink for Ali for the winter to wear on the really cold and snowy days, it wasnt as thick as the picture made it out to be.

But last spring I got her this adorable pink fleece and this time I didnt see it there, maybe they discontinued it. I got an awesome pink coat from there so now I have 2 a black and white and a pink and white. I used to wear fleece to work and I do in my office but its too cold to wear just fleece parking in a field and walking a 1/4 mile.

My Mum got Ana a fleece snowsuit (its a fleece jacket and salopettes so she can just wear the jacket or both parts) and then can wear her winter coat and winter trousers over the top if we are out walking.

People who live in places where its never 100 in summer or 3 foot snow in winter have easy coat solutions!

I was at a store today an they had this Columbia Sportswear | Bugababy Interchange Bunting I didn't get it but it was a fleece bunting with a nylon shell over it like their adult 3 in 1 jackets. But I couldn't get past the spikes on the other bunting.
