We are expecting in Dec and are looking for a car seat. We will be buying new. We have a 1993 Dodge Dakota, it doesn't have air bags. It has a backseat but I'm not sure if a Carseat will fit back there? If so which brand? Does anyone have experience with this type of vehicle? On another note I have come across a really good deal for a carseat/stroller combo, and am wondering if anyone has used this particular one and has any more details on it, the safety first website is pretty bare..

Thanks in advance

Hi! Welcome to CSS! Congrats on your baby on the way!

I did some research about the seat that you linked in your post. As crazy as this sounds, it actually will not fit a newborn properly. When a child is RFing the shoulder harness has to come in at or below baby's shoulders meaning that the lowest harness height needs to around 7" or less. The seat you linked to is around 8". While a 1" difference doesn't seem like a lot, it makes a huge difference in a baby that is only 20" tall. It is not the best choice on the market right now. It looks like it is also a rear-adjust seat meaning that you adjust the harness in the back of the seat. It is often very difficult to use a rear adjust and makes it hard to get the harness adjusted properly. I would look for a seat with a front-adjust because they are super easy and fool proof!

What kind of cab do you have on your Dakota? My hubby seems to think you have suicide doors and backseats that face each other as opposed to a bench seat. If you have that set-up, you cannot use a car seat back there. A car seat must be installed on a forward facing seat in a vehicle.

What is your budget for a car seat? Are you dead set on an infant carrier, or would you consider going straight to a convertible?

It is just a bench backseat, two door truck I'm not dead set on an infant carrier I would prefer a convertible but was under the impression that none would fit RF for an infant because of the incline needed for a newborn. Our budget is the lowest the best but if we need to spend more money to get something that is safe and will fit we will. I didn't know that about the lowest harness height, it is one more thing I will know to look for now. Thanks..
