Group health, individual policy, HSA, Medicare, none??

We currently are on a group health plan, plus dental for our family. The prices are just so astronomical we're thinking of switching to HSA, but I was curious is anyone has experience using one? It will save us about $200/month if we switch.

Do you know any pros or cons of a HSA?

I have none. DH gets his insurance through his company and they pay for all of their employees. We just can't afford the price to add me and the kids

Mary,
I hear ya on the price. For 2 years I went without and we covered the boys and dh thru an individual plan. I think, even then we paid close to $500 for the 3 of them. Then Kris took this new job about 5 months ago. His job pays decently for Kris, but for the boys and me we are paying around $650!! It's killing us financially and we're having a hard time paying our bills because of the stupid insurance. Honestly, it's put me in a bit of a depression because how tight our money is just for the sake of health coverage.

we have a PPO which covers everything.we can even go straight to a specialist without getting a referral fron the dr. Before I got married I had a HMO.

I don't know if this answered the question.

We have a PPO through Blue Cross Blue Shield - We pay 6000/year and its terrible coverage to boot - I don't recommend ours

We have Cigna PPO and I'm pretty happy with it. Our dental is through Delta.

We're on Aetna PPO. It's not too bad, but not as good as other plans we've had in the past. I have no idea what we pay for it, but I think dh's company picks up most of the tab.

We have BC/BS through my husband's employer. It's decent insurance, and not too expensive since his employer pays a percentage.

I have none. DH has United through his work which is only $25/wk. All three kids will be on his insurance when open enrollment comes around next spring and then it'll be about $75/wk. It would be way too expensive to add me on. I don't mind though-- I'm never sick enough to go to the doctor.

We have Blue Cross Federal Employee coverage. It is really good!! It didn't cost me anything when my son was born. It costs us $160 every two weeks for the whole family so not too expensive either.

One of the things I like about working for a hospital is the great health insurance. We used to use Alliance PPO which I liked better but now they switched to InforMed. You can choose from 4 health care plans depending on how much health coverage you need. I decided to go with the second most highest health coverage because I have diabetes. I pay $136 bi-weekly for medical, dental and vision for our family. We get our Rx's through the hospital for dirt cheap too.
