Well we met with the RE today and he suggested doing IVF right away due to our limited budget...other factors include my endometriosis, I only had 6 follies on each side on my ultrasound, they like to see 8 but my FSH was TOP NOTCH, and I have a large endometrioma on my R ovary that they think may be obstructing.

AF is due in 1 week and then I will start the BC. He said were looking at a FEB retrieval and transfer.

We still have some insurance money left to go towards the IVF and my parents said they would help us, because this will be their first grand baby!!!

If any of you ladies can share your IVF experiences I would GREATLY appreciate it. Were the hormones horrible? How did the retrieval and transfer go...what to expect.....etc. etc. Did you trust your hubby to give you the injections?? I'm a RN so I am comfortable but I don't know about giving them to myself and I think DH might try to "REPAY" me for the flu shots I have given to him over the years lol.

Telling the hubby's parents tomorrow they have no idea we have been TTC since January '09 WOW didn't think about that until now. They are so different from my parents I'm totally freaked about going over there tomorrow I think it will come as a shock to them.....

Cycles 1-12 all BFN's. Going straight to IVF per RE advice.

Yay for the next step!

I was on a long lupron protocol because BCPs don't do anything for me -- I still ovulate on them. I am one of the very few people who actually LIKED lupron. I did get a nasty yeast infection from it however.

The hormones also -- i had no problems with. I felt normal, happy and sane for the first time in a long time. It was like my body needed those hormones to make me not so jumpy LOL.

I gave myself the shots and had no problem. The progesterone shots were the worst, but after we found what i was not allergic to it went much better.

The retrieval was fine --- I went shopping 6 hours later. The transfer was fine too. Little uncomfortable but manageable.

Out of everything (pregnancy, birth and IVF) -- IVF was the easiest in the whole process for me.

Good luck!

I didn't do BC either. They had me on Suprefact first (suppression agent) and that did give me wicked hot flashes!

But the hormones weren't bad. The injections weren't bad either (I gave them to myself).

The worst for me was the mild OHSS (the bloating was horrible!). Be sure to drink lots of fluids to help with the bloating.

I hope that you have lots of follies and superstar embryos!

The first time I did IVF...it wasn't really IVF, it was IVM, but I still had a short round of stims, took estrogen, steroids, and injected the Progesterone in Oil after retrieval. I had no problems with any of it ( I did have a bit of severe pain after retrieval, but it was nothing and the pain meds took care of it). I gave myself all of the injections, and did fine. But it was a BFN.
I am currently injecting Lupron and taking a birth control pill daily (I have adenomyosis and the BC pill I'm on seems to make me crampy from it) getting ready for my IVF cycle to start. Might be starting stims as early as Jan 21st.

Good Luck to you! Come join us in TTC by IVF Jan Feb March 2011 IVF, if you would like!

I'm so excited for you, Meg!!

For me, IVF wasn't as bad as I thought it would be! Planning is key in my mind! The hormones made me probably a little more emotional than usual, and caused me some headaches, but otherwise, not really much in the way of side effects. I really think you'll be pleasantly surprised when you do your first shot-- they are practically painless. I did all my own shots, up until the progesterone in oil shots- hubby handled those for me. None of them really hurt at all though!

For me, retrieval was a breeze. When I came out of anesthesia, I didn't really have any pain at all. It didn't feel like he even went in there and did anything! Transfer was a little tougher on me because of my cervix, and the full bladder is no fun, but it's pretty fast and in most cases, pain free!

I can't wait to follow your progress and I'm glad you joined our IVF thread-- it's going to be a great year!!

How exciting!!!!

I did my 1st IVF in November and it worked!! I am pregnant!! They had me take bc pills for a bit. Then I started Follistim injections. Then did Ganorelix to keep ovulation off while my follies grew an then Ovidrell to bring on ovulation before retrieval. I had done IUI's before so I had used these same injectibles then. I never had any bad side effects from them. Just hated all the shots and had a little bruising at the injection site.

Retrieval made me nervous because of being under light anesthesia, but it went off without a hitch. I only had like 5 eggs and was ready to cry when they told me that was all they got. But they kept assuring me it only takes one and it did. I was sore, but not really in pain for the rest of the day. By the next day I was up and around.

The day of transfer I went in thinking if there was 1 good embryo we would only transfer one because the thought of carrying multiples scared me. But when we got there I had 1 good embryo and all the others were pretty poor. They convinced me to put back 3 embryos for the best chances. They said the chance of all 3 or even 2 taking were slim, but they wanted to give me the best possible chance for pregnancy. I took their advice with my hubby's prompting and it was a success. I am only pregnant with one. My dr gave me one valium to take an hour prior to transfer to calm me. It made the transfer pain free. I had a little cramping later that day. I layed the passenger seat down on the way home and spent the next the rest of that day and the next on bedrest. My re said they have seen a lot of success with that.

I had to do progseterone in sesame oil injections on my bum daily after transfer. I ended up having a reaction to that. The injection sites swelled, got red and itchy, and were hot to the touch. So they switched me to progesterone in olive oil. That worked better. They also had me take the shots in the evening, but not lay down right after. So I would do them after dinner so I would be up doing dishes and walking around. They said it would help keep the medicine spreading around instead of lumping in one area. I also applied ice to the injection site to numb it prior to the injections which helped.

Oh and I did a 2 day transfer because with so few embryos they were afraid to wait till day 5. I felt like a failure at that point because I had heard such success with day 5 transfers. But it worked out for the best.
