Were you given progesterone after the procedure?

I was always given a progesterone injection the day of and then 4 days later told to start prometrium pills.

I went to an RE for a second opinion and he questioned the need for prog.

I just wonder if that is inhibiting the process?

Also why is prog. given to bring on AF and to help sustain a pregnancy?

I never received any kind of progesterone supplementation with my IUIs. I always made enough on my own, so neither doctor felt it was necessary.

I'll be on progesterone only if my levels dictate the need.

I am 8DPIUI and I am not on progesterone. My progesterone has always been great even on a natural cycle, so there really is no need. They did check mine yesterday at 7DPO but I haven't heard the results yet.

I always took prometrium after IUIs.

Progesterone is a hormone that your body produces after ovulation. If you're pregnant, then your body will continue to produce progesterone to sustain the pregnancy until the placenta takes over around 11-12 weeks (or some time around the end of the 1st trimester.) But, your progesterone will stay elevated your entire pregnancy until you give birth.

If you're not pregnant and you need to bring on AF, then progesterone can be used to do that too. By giving progesterone for a short period of time and then stopping it, the drastic drop of the progesterone hormone in your body will trigger AF to start.

I hope that helps!

i was given it for 1 IUI, by OB but then for IUI #2, by RE, no progesterone; when i asked for it he said that i shouldnt need it, unless there was a deficiency that we knew about and that the body should make enough on its own

Not me - my CD21 levels have always been nice and high on medicated cycles. My RE only gives it if you need it.

You should only be on progesterone if your levels are too low!

I am 38 so I wondered if she gave it to me because of my age.
Thanks for the explanations.

My RE prescribes progesterone (suppositories only) to everyone. Regardless of being diagnosed with a problem. His philosophy is that too little can be devastating, too much is like spitting in the ocean, not going to make a difference at all.

He has me start them 2 days after the IUI. Almost wish though he would test to see if they are needed as they are $60 for a 15 day supply!

Yes I have my CD21 levels checked every month. Its always 46, 57, 66, etc. Always high.

My dr. told me today she wants me to start Repronex next month and a glance at the prices has me a little unnerved!
