Does IUI hurt? What can I expect besides a BFP?

Mine felt like my HSG...a slight pinch as the catheter went in and maybe a mild cramp or two...no biggie at all!

I had 3 IUIs and when the doctor said "you're done" at the end of all of them, I was thinking "that's it?" I did have cramping the next day during one cycle.

Good luck to you!

From what I understand, most people just feel a slight pinch as the catheter goes. I've got a weird cervix and uterus so my IUI's are not easy.

When I had my HSG on Friday I barely even felt the pinch. My cervix should be a little more open than it was on CD7 right?

boy I feel like DH should be there or something.... That seems so weird (hopefully) getting a BFP and he wasn't even there. LOL

Ah, the joys of TTCMA DH can't go with me for my FET, so I'm going to fly across the country with my toddler to get pregnant by myself...how messed up does that sound?!?

The only time IUIs were uncomfortable for me was when they did one with ultrasound guidance, which meant I had to have a full bladder. Mine was way too full and I was terrified of peeing on my RE

using Donor sperm, my husband doesn't even come to the appointments. I could technically get pregnant with him in another country, lol

hehe - it's all kinda funny. It's amazing really. Thank goodness for medical technology.

So tomorrow CD12 I go for my ovary check. I know he is looking for a follie to measure and watch it grow so he knows when to do the IUI. He is also taking more blood work. What is he looking for in the blood work? My LH surge?
This guy has taken blood 3 times in 30 days. My last RE only took it once in 3 months.

I would say this RE is much more thorough!

They will probably check your Estrogen levels (E2). They usually measure about 200 per mature follie, so he will want to see where you are at with that compared to what he sees on the u/s.

Yes, they're looking at hormone levels, usually your E2 and LH. E2 gives them a better idea what is going on with your follicles, the LH to ensure you are not ovulating prematurely

My RE made me go for US and blood work every 2-3 days during my cycles. Talk about bruising! was all of course worth it in the end! Just to throw in my 2 cents, I am with other girls with my IUI- barely felt a thing and was a little weirded out that DH wasn't in the room.

Gretchen,
I had 5 IUIs before moving to this IVF cycle.
The above descriptions of what it feels like are accurate. Its over pretty quickly. I did develop a bad infection after my last IUI but I feel that was the clinic's fault. I went into the hospital 2 days after the IUI with major abdomen swelling but I think that is very rare. Don't worry about a thing.
Is this a medicated cycle? All of mine were so we used the HCG trigger injection each time.

I had 2 IUI's. One was barely noticeable and the other was a little painful. The second and more painful one ended up being successful.

My husband came to all my IUI appointments. No way was I going to do that alone.

ccartanddesign - I am sorry you got an infection This is a non-medicated iui. I didn't decide to do the iui until after the hsg which was CD7 so it was to late for me to start the meds. I will be doing the meds next cycle if this doens't work.

I went in today and my follie is only measured 15. I will call in after 2 and get my blood work results. He said the iui will probably be sunday and monday. Two rounds! Did you guys have more than one iui per cycle two days in a row?

DH goes out of town Monday so he'll have go to the RE Monday morning and give his deposit and than off to the airport. haha!

A lot of RE's prefer doing IUI's 2 days in a row, mine does, but since we are using a donor he only does 1. Doing back to back IUI's is usually done in cases where sperm count is not an issue, and helps to cover all the bases and make sure the max amount of sperm is there to meet that eggie.
