After our 3 failed IUIs, the RE wanted to meet with DH & I this morning. She wants us to move onto IVF! She explained that we are in the 10% of unexplained infertility. She did say that DH's sperm may be "acolt" (not sure of spelling). That means that they can't penetrate the egg. For our first IVF, she will fertilize half of the eggs by just pouring the sperm in the dish & half by injecting the sperm into the egg just to determine if that is the case.
Well, we have to take a class in their office on 12/20 to go over the shots & medicines. I should start AF on Christmas Ever...and then we're off and running for an IVF in January! I'm so excited! I really just want a baby. Hoping IVF is our answer and we'll have a 2012 baby!

That is so exciting!!!! Just be aware- the classes, the shots, medicine etc.. It can be SO overwhelming at first. Sometimes it felt like it was just happening to me. But the truth is that you have a say in how your cycle goes, and also spend time educating yourself.
It is so so worth it in the end

What are your clinic's SART rates? That will really determine your chances of success. That and, age, diagnosis, and whether or not you've been pg before.

can't wait to stalk your progress!!!!!

Melissa...first off the twins are such great news! I am sooo happy for you!

The RE gave us so much information today. She said if we do a day 3 transfer, she would let us do up to 3. If we do a 5 day transfer, we could do up to 2. We'll need to discuss it when we know the "goodness" of the embryos at that point. I'm 32.5 right now, so she's glad that I'm "young." I've never been pregnant before & DH has never had a pregnancy either. She put us in the 10% of unexplained infertitlity & is leaning toward "acolt" sperm.

I'm just planning on enjoying the holidays with wine and margaritas and exercising a whole lot! We are really active people & since we started meds in Aug, we've really toned down our workouts because the RE didn't want my heart rate over 140 at any point (between hormones and lack of exercise I feel so fat). DH kind of followed my lead and he complains about feeling fat too. He's always been athletic and I've always just had to exercise since most of my dad's family is obese & I've had to fight that my entire life.

So, I wait on AF...due on Christmas Eve...and we see what happens in January! I have hope!

By the way, I see that a lot people on here are facebook friends. If anyone wants to friend me, search Mandy Space-Jaust. I don't mention my infertility on there, but it would be good to know some of you more.

Welcome to the IVF crowd! I'm glad that you have a plan to get that BFP!

You guys sound just like us...unexplained and my RE did 8 of our eggs with ICSI and 5 with natural fertilization.

Like Melissa said, it is overwhelming at first, but you'll do great. Try to write everything down, even if it seems silly, because at some point you might not remember it.

Last but not least, come on up to the TTC by IVF board and join the Dec/Jan/Feb group! I take my last BCP on Christmas and then start meds for my FET, so we'll be pretty close as far as our cycles go.

IVF babies Claire (5), Abigail (3) and George (3)

I am sorry for your 3 failed iui attempts, however, I bet that IVF will work for you. I know how heartbreaking it is when a cycle doesn't work. I hope with the IVF your heartbreak will be over.

Good luck.
