Hi all,
I was wondering if those of you who have had an HSG could tell me what to expect, particularly if you get the results on the spot or if you have to wait... Is it an MRI machine that does the scan?

You should be taking an antibiotic right now, doxycycline. I think I took a 7 day cycle and so did DH. In case we did have unprotected sex ..I guess. So no sex to be safe. You don't want to get pregnant on this it could severely deform the baby. You wear a gown just like any other obgyn visit. Then you will go in a room with a tech and the mini mri machine. The tech will insert the speculum, run the tube and some type of balloon so it opens your uterus up for the pictures. There was a little pressure with this but it did not hurt. The dye goes through and that's when they take the pictures. I did not feel any pain at all. I took the Ibuprofen before going and didn't need it at all. There should be a monitor that will show your uterus and fallopian tubes. Depending on what tech you get they will read your results otherwise your doctor will tell you upon your next visit. My tech told me right away that I didn't have any blockages, but I did have a very insignificant fibroid. After you are done, you will need to clean up the dye, it's quite a mess and sticky. They should have pads for you b/c you will continue to leak. On my way home I did have a little cramping but it was nothing. I hate to even call it cramping. I actually had them print out my xray so I could take it home with me. Tell them ahead time if you want to do this. I waited 20 min after the procedure for them to print it out. Some places can burn on a cd too.
