I know with IUI that if you are doing your first round of injectibles they start you on a really low dose to see how you respond - do they do the same with IVF? For such an expensive cycle it would really suck to only pop one eggie for IVF. Just curious

...is it Monday yet? LOL.

I don't think they start you off with a particularly low dose. Each clinic seems to have a protocol they prefer, and that tends to be the protocol they use for everyone. Then, after the first cycle, they might tweak it a little if the response wasn't great. But usually they'll start you out on a sufficiently high dose.

I wouldn't worry about too low of a dose... the amount used in IVF is higher than that for IUI. With IVF, they are trying to maximize the quantity of follicles, without compensating on quality, knowing they will be able to freeze anything left over. Where as with IUI, they are trying to control growth to 2 - 3 good sized follices so as to lower the chance of high multiples.

Your dose will be based on standard protocol for your clinic with consideration taken for other factors, such as age. They will monitor you closely and can adjust the dose during the cycle to compensate for either too much or too little growth.

I was on Gonal-F and for my first cycle I was on 300IU a day and that was just about perfect. For my second fresh cycle (about 9 months later), they upped me to 350IU to compensate for age. It actually ended up being a tad too much and they scaled me back for my last few injectible days to 300IU again.
