How do you feel about having a large family during a time when Large Family reality shows seem to be a big trend?

I read an article not to long ago that said that large families were becoming "trendy" because of all the attention that shows like 'Jon & Kate Plus 8' and '19 and Counting' have brought to them. This kinda ticked me off because I don't like the thought of people thinking I have 5 kids because of this new trend. What's your opinion, will we be looked at as trendy or will it go un-noticed?

I don't know. I think around here - anything more than two and you are a freak. I don't think people will jump on the large family bandwagon just because of a few shows. For people who don't have large families ~ they may tune in to watch to see the chaos of some people's lives. I don't watch them because I live it. LOL

Now if Farmerswife had a reality show - I would watch that.

You would just see me sitting here typing to you. I like the duggers and I liked the kids by the dozen because they show things so positively. The others are freak shows like the old carni days.

I only have four kids, which really isn't a lot, and people say to me "What, are you going for your own show?" I can't wait until the tv show trend for that is over.

I feel sorry for anyone that has a lot of kids to get a reality show. Although if that was the story behind Octo-mom I can't say I would be surprised...

Im not a fan of those shows at all, I think children need space to be children, they dont need cameras shoved in their faces and to be recognised in the streets as little mini-celebrities.

Im glad theyre not big here, im pretty sure theyre on cable, but I know that on plain on Australian free to air Jon and Kate didnt take off, the Duggars were on during the day at some point and I used to have it on in the background and I wasnt big on it.

I also kind of noticed that theyre really over the top. Especially from what ive seen of Jon and Kate, everything is dramatic and everything is huge and everything is a BIG DEAL, but, at least for my family, its not like that at all. I saw the Christmas espisode and they were making a HUGE deal out of the way they give the kids presents, it was a whole segment on how difficult it is to get the kids to unwrap presents, which just struck me as odd.

And it wouldnt surprise me either if Octomom did what she did just to get on t.v.

I think watching me try to load four toddlers by myself into the van to leave the house by myself would make for boring viewing. In my old, used, rusty minivan as my husband works 6 days a week, to pay for two houses.... Trying to find a babysitter for the twins so I can take the two toddlers to gymnastics at 9am. That's my reality, who'd want to watch that??

I had all my kids just to get a show. I'm gonna have to have one more though, because my name rhymes with ten....lets start thinking of show names...."Jen +Ten....in da hood" anyone else got an idea? C'mon I'm pitching to TLC and some other cable stations soon.

I liked Jon and Kate in the beginning, when they were just normal, and it was fun to see the kids and how they do things to manage. I quit watching as soon as they started trying to be glamorous, and they should have stopped the show long before they did.
I watch table for 12 occasionally (I don't watch a lot of tv), and I like them, I think they're fun and down to earth, and yes, I do watch the duggars too.

Great news though, I finally found a way to be trendy!!!!!! LOL

People often feel negative about a large family for themselves (for reasons like $$ and whatnot) but I hope these shows show that it is busy and all, but also really really worth it.

I'm in, UM! Jen +10 in da hood is awesome! I could come visit and be all supernanny shocked all the time. With my wireglasses and long skirt. Get Shari in there to be all normal. It would really stand out.

That would be fun. Maybe we could have a whole show on my son's basketball tourney's and how worked up everyone gets, parents screaming, kids mouthing off at ref's (not mine, I'll kick his....), it's amazing how out of control 13 year old bball can get.

You all make me laugh! We have never seen one of those reality big family shows. We cannot afford to have t.v. service that broadcasts them. We have the 4 or 5 basic channels, which is more than enough for us. We do get comments about keeping up with the Duggers though. My friend gave me their book, and they seem like a neat family that has worked for what they have. But I second a PP, who wants to watch 30 minutes of me trying to load the van

Jen!!

I can't stand Jon & Kate, I liked them in the beginning (when I thought they were normal) but now that they think their God's gift to the world I can't see them as anything more than morons! (Parents not the kids.)
I do like the Duggar's and watch them (when I remember) but I don't like the comments "keepin' up w/ the Duggars?" or "trying for your own show?". I'd like a little more respect than that.
Also, ten or fifteen years from now when the shows blow over, I don't want people to be like, Oh she had five kids during the early 2000's, obviously she just wanted to be like Kate, Michelle, or God forbid, Nadia!!

LOL you all are a HOOT!!!

I have never seen a single episode of the big family shows....I know the duggars from looking them up online and such...but never saw the show. I like them though...

Currently, since we only have four....we get the "So...are you going for a basket ball team" but never been compared to the famous big families.

We aren't to give a baby milk, berries, or peanut butter. We are to introduce new foods one at a time. But it's OK to inject several viruses, bacteria, aluminum, formaldehyde, phenoxyethanol, animal serum, mercury, squalene and more into an 8 week old? I don't think so.
In order to be healthy it is an unfortunate fact that people must be allowed the opportunity to be ill. I trust my body and those of my children to work correctly against the relatively benign diseases they vax for, and do not trust the ingredients in the vaccinations.
Our choice to not vax isn't based in ignorance, poverty, conspiracy theory and rumor. It's research, common sense, fact and evidence based..something the medical community has largely forgot about.

LOL....sounds like my life! I do have a blog which only my mother reads. It is literally like "Today we went to swim lessons and now I am tired." I'm just not sure we would be getting the ratings!

I hope people aren't really having more kids because of these shows. I think by the time you get to two or three kids you see that they are just a tiny peek into these people's lives and not reality. I did read somewhere recently that more people are having a third or even fourth child as a status symbol. I don't know anyone that wealthy though.

it's funny though how people get caught up in these things.....

A friend has a son, and him and his wife had adopted these 2 girls from Kenya, and then wanted to adopt a little boy from there, and they did, but it took wayyyy longer than the first time even after they had decided to adopt one child and not a sibling set of boys like they had hoped for at first and the reason for this longer wait is because of celebrities like Brangelina and Madonna adopting from abroad, which has made it way more popular than before.
Now wether this is a good or bad thing, I am not one to say, but it does show how people are affected by the media.

LOL - that's true.

Of course Brad and Angie make it look easy. When you're loaded - it IS easy! You can have people do whatever you need them to so it's easier on you! Just look pretty and smile for the cameras once in a while.
