how do you stay organized any good tips?

It seems no matter what we do we end up forgetting things in the morning, miss appointments ect....lol.

So for all you large families how do you stay organized when juggling so many different childrens items and schedules?

I don´t have too much to offer as I have been researching this and not finding what I am looking for. But I will say I am married to my calendar, check it a few times a day sometimes. Take it with me everywhere and check it often. As for mornings, I have found getting as much ready the night before is key.

So you tell me how to stretch 1400 sq feet to house 11 people, store the stuff, have room to play, work, read, etc.

Constant vigilance lol. Seriously though you really have to be on top and stay on top of things or it all falls part. Right now I am so not ready for school to start because with all the pregnancy issues I have not been on top for a month and it will take me at least a week of hard work (which I am not allowed to do) to get it all back together.

Appointments I put in my phone with a 24 hour reminder.

We don't do so much right now sports wise or anything. Stuff like that, that happens weekly, I just remember in my head. You could always put them as a repeating event in the phone too though.

I have one of those big flat desktop calendars, and I keep it on the lid of my washing machine. As soon as I schedule something or see an activity I want to do I write it on the calendar. Every weekend I look at the calendar to see what is coming, then I look again the night before, and then again that morning. I live by the calendar...if it's not up there it just won't happen. I've done this for several years in a row and it works really well for us.

I don't know if I am organized in most parts of my life (like when it comes to stuff). I am when it comes to appointments though. Being self employed, I have to be... so does my husband. We use google calendar so that we can sync all of our different schedules together: husband has 3 schedules for his work: meetings, cleaning, and church events/classes, I have my doula calendar for meetings and EDD's (on call schedule), and we have our family calendar for family events and sports. I expect when the kids get older, they will each get their own calendars that we can sync up for their social lives, jobs, extra curricular activities, and I would also like to use it for home school to add projects and their due dates.

I write everything on my calender in the kitchen. I could put my stuff on my phone but I like seeing a whole month at a time. I have a color for each of the kids, so we know who is doing what and going where, dh and I or family things are the same color (black).

specific to calendaring things: when all the kids lived here, i got this calendar set at target. it was generic months so i could pencil in the dates but the key was colored stickers. there were like 5 or 6 colors and i assigned a color to each person. then i put the stickers on the correct days. they are easily removable if things change. that way i can see at a glance what the day looks like, where i am expected to help out when and i can also see the month at a glance. it was so helpful.

I also live by a calendar and color coding.

My calendar has everything we have going on written in and then highlighted in different colors for different kids. No highlighting for my stuff or hubbys stuff.

To keep the house somewhat organized I have a color coded chart for that. Each day the kids have different chores to help keep the house clean.

We organize all clothes, school supplies, pack lunches, etc the night before. I prep dinners as much as I can when my 1 year old takes his afternoon nap.

But I only have 4 kids, which probably seems like a vacation for some of you

Google calendar is great. My dd and dh have the password and they can add their own stuff to it from whatever computer they are on. Then I print off a weekly agenda every sunday and a monthly one too. I attach them and any other important notes to a sticky on my front door so I cant walk out without seeing them. This worked great last year with OT, speech, ortho appts, OB appts, and games all happening regularly. When I didn't print my calendar I always missed stuff. I have to get it going again. although this years schedule should be easier. I only have 1 son in speech, dd is getting her braces off and everyone in school goes every day this year.
