My RE scheduled my iui for 24 hours after trigger, but I'm freaking out because my hubby and I are using donor sperm (he's doesn't produce his own spermies). Everything I've read shows that donor sperm only lives about 12 hours (max) and I don't expect to ovulate before at least 36 hours post trigger. Anyone doing iui with donor sperm and if so has anyone had luck with 24 hours post trigger?

Lurking here, we conceived via IUI with donor sperm approx 19hr post trigger. If the sperm was shipped to your RE's office, it's frozen there. They do not thaw them until you're physically in the office to get the IUI bc if something happens and you can't make the appt, there goes the vial. The thawing process doesn't take long at all. Hope this helps!

From my research it sounds like all RE's have their own protocol here, so I wouldn't say you're "out". Some do IUI's 24 hours post HCG shot, and some 36 hours. I'd say you've still got a good shot, especially if the donor sperm is good!!

Everything I have read says the frozen sperm once in the body live at least 24 hours but start loosing their potency at 24 hours some sites say they can live in the body for up to 74 hours.

Hi there. I have never been in such situation. However, I have no idea about it. I am not sure but I have read that frozen sperms do not last long. I may be wrong. You need to consult a doctor about your situation. He will be able to guide you in a better way.

If the donor sperm is good, I think you have a good chance. Also, it's true that some people consider 36 hours too. Don't get disappointed yet that's all I can say.

The swimmers will survive for a few days and you O almost exactly 36 hours after the trigger so the ideal would be for the swimmers to be waiting for that egg when you O the next day. I don't know how low your DH's numbers are but the IUI will certainly help. We just did IVF in Bio tex clinic & used 1/2 our eggs for ICSI to guarantee we had some fertilize so if you get to that point, please drop me a note & I can share my experience. Btw my RE has DH take an anti-histamine before he does his thing to get a bit more volume... and we've seen a HUGE increase in his numbers since he started taking a vitamin. I'm sure you've tried all the tricks but you never know what will help! Good luck with the IUI and the BDing the next day.
