Iui with donor sperm?

  • My RE scheduled my iui for 24 hours after trigger, but I'm freaking out because my hubby and I are using donor sperm (he's doesn't produce his own spermies). Everything I've read shows that donor sperm only lives about 12 hours (max) and I don't expect to ovulate before at least 36 hours post trigger. Anyone doing iui with donor sperm and if so has anyone had luck with 24 hours post trigger?

Lurking here, we conceived via IUI with donor sperm approx 19hr post trigger. If the sperm was shipped to your RE's office, it's frozen there. They do not thaw them until you're physically in the office to get the IUI bc if something happens and you can't make the appt, there goes the vial. The thawing process doesn't take long at all. Hope this helps!

From my research it sounds like all RE's have their own protocol here, so I wouldn't say you're "out". Some do IUI's 24 hours post HCG shot, and some 36 hours. I'd say you've still got a good shot, especially if the donor sperm is good!!

Everything I have read says the frozen sperm once in the body live at least 24 hours but start loosing their potency at 24 hours some sites say they can live in the body for up to 74 hours.

I conceived my 3 boys (one set of twins) with iui and donor sperm. I had my trigger shot 24 hours before each time.
