Personally, I hate nick names. Of course, I may be biased since my name is Rachel and that's a hard name to nick name. But honestly, I feel as though a person is given one name so why should they go by another?

DH, on the other hand, feels differently. He feels that everyone needs a nick name. Of course, his name is William, but he's been called Billy all his life so he's coming at it from a different perspective. Heck, he even refuses to call me Rachel; instead he calls me Rachie.

Thank you to pattyandthemoos for the beautiful siggie!

I really don't like nicknames. I understand their purpose in some cases.. i.e. shortening Alexandria to Alex so the 6-year-old with the name can, y'know, SAY her name.. but for the most part I just don't like them. I nickname my children, but not using their names. Luke is Bubba and Lauren is Miss. I really try to pick baby names that don't have a nickname option.. or at least not a well-known one.

DH doesn't have a problem with nicknames, but also doesn't think that EVERY name needs one. He'd call Madeline "Maddie" but wouldn't shorten Rachel to "Rachie." (That would drive me totally insane, by the way!)

Depends on the particular name. I MUCH prefer Charlie to Charles for example but don't like say, Hud for Hudson at all. I would look at them case by case. Some nicknames have no correlation what so ever to the given name so I can't say one way or the other!

We're both okay with nns. While growing up, my two siblings, my mom, and I all went by our full names. My dad was the only one with a nn. And, most of my family members go by their full names. But, I've grown to like nns.

My DD's name has so many nn options - Isabella. But, we usually call her by her full name. Occasionally, we shorten it when in a long convo or if I have to retype her name a lot in an email.

My son's name IS a nn - Max. We love it but did not like any of the long forms of the name enough to use them. Now, I typically do not like nns as full names. But, he often goes by Max Anthony, we introduce him as Max Anthony, alot of his personalized stuff has Max Anthony, etc....

I don't mind them at all and neither does my husband. Actually no one in my immdiate family goes by their given name 'at home' except for my brother Jonathan and my son Donovan. Well.. my Dad is Joe but that is his full name, and it's short already

It depends on the name and the person really.

Professionally, I choose to go by my full name, but that's another issue I suppose.

Both my Dh and I agree that nn's are important. But we chose names w/ obvious nn's. Though that is probably more my decision than DH's. He wanted to use the name Easton Jacob nn EJ for the last one if a boy and that just didn't seem right to me (but I would have went w/ it I guess).

However, we don't think every name needs a nn. I'm Cortney never Corey and he's Brian never Bri.
Cortney...mom to A, C, E, L, I, and R

When I'm Due...

When I think this baby will actually come out

One of the reasons we chose Gabriella is because we loved the nickname options. We both use nicknames A LOT. And if it didn't stem from the name, we make-up other ones

We love nicknames.. I think I like names with nicknames because I never had one (some people called me Car which I couldn't stand) so I guess having names with an obvious nn or nns was important to me.

Haha i'm generally not fond of them - yet I call Gabrielle, Gaby Although that's becuase in the beginning she was just going to be Gaby - so I got used to calling her Gaby when I was pregnant - and after we decided on Gabrielle, Gaby just stuck

Our Audrey Jane is "AJ" atleast 75% of the time. So yes, we love nicknames, especially weird ones.

Audrey is also Audio, Audi, Audrikins, AJkins, A-Jane, Jane(s), etc.

Oh, I don't mind nicknames. My mom calls me Alyssies and Aleashka most of the time. Others call me Bob... I used to loathe being called Bob, but I got over it. Some kid back in middle school thought it went well with my last name and so it has stuck over the years. Jason's family picked up on it and I don't think his father has called me by my actual name in the past 4 years.

As for my daughter's name. Well, she has a lot of nicknames. Jo, Jordi, Jodi, Miss Bubbles, Miss J, girlfriend, monkey butt, etc. They're harmless. When she's older I bet she'll give me evil looks for some of the nn's, but for now I'll have fun with it.

well with Cohen we were deadset against using a name that you could shorten, but this time we're using Abram and already calling him Abe. I guess it depends on the name. You wouldn't think you could give Hayley, or Cohen a nn, but i've been called plenty of nn's in my day, and so far Cohen has been called Coey and Coco (***?!)

anyway, we aren't completely against it, it just depends on the name

My son Cohen is named after my husband, and we found it easier to call Cohen, "C.J" I think it's very cute too.

Thank you claire1979 for my beautiful siggy!
