I've loved this for a long time and it was a font runner when I was pregnant with my son. Suddenly I'm falling for it all over again! I had, at one time, completely nixed it because of the allergy medicine and the LEG right in the middle of the name.

So, I just need opinions. Is it pretty, but unrealistic? Maybe usable, but ugly anyway? Is the medicine too overwhelming an association for you to even get past it? Will people just think it's weird?

For those who might not know, Allegra is an Italian name meaning 'lively, cheerful', but is not currently used in Italy. The term Allegro in music means the same thing, and I love that connection to music terminology. I also love the connection to "The Children's Hour" by Longfellow. An excerpt:

between the dark and the daylight,
When the night is beginning to lower,
Comes a pause in the day's occupations,
That is known as the Children's Hour.

I hear in the chamber above me
The patter of little feet,
The sound of a door that is opened,
And voices soft and sweet.

From my study I see in the lamplight,
Descending the broad hall stair,
Grave Alice, and laughing Allegra,
And Edith with golden hair.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Being a musician, I tend to love the musical names. I like Allegra, but for girls, my absolute favorite is Aria. It feels more feminine than Allegra to me.

I like Allegra. I don't associate it with the medicine, and it took me a minute to figure out what you meant by LEG so I don't think that part of the name stands out. It's feminine sounding without being delicate, it's strong. I think it makes a good name!

I think it sounds like you really love it and that alone is reason to use it.

I automatically think of that old children's show Allegra's Window.

Although it's not my personal style, I think the name is very pretty and would go wonderfully with your son's name. I don't think the medicine association is that big of a deal...wouldn't be a deal breaker for me anyway.

I love teh name Allegra and I bet my Dh would go for it too. The medication association is not a big deal to me and I don't see leg every time I look at it. I think it is a great choice, and goes well with your son's name too.

I think Allegra is so pretty and I love the meaning! I used to think of the medicine but not really any more (they used to have a ton of commercials but I haven't seen one in years). I think it goes really well the Oscar too.

I like the name Allegra but it never made it on our list due to my husband being a pharmacist, without that though, it likely would have made our list.

I did not think once about the LEG thing...but I did think about the medicine thing. Other than that it's pretty...
