Hi girls--I have an 8 month old daughter named Alyssa and we just found out today that we are having another girl. They will be 14 months apart.

We like the name Addison. Our only concern is that she won't have much of an identity b/c of being so close to her sister, who's name is Alyssa. Alyssa and Addison. Aly and Addi. That also sounds the same...so maybe it would cause confusion.

What do you think? Do you think the second child will feel left out with Addison?

Well, the two names are alike not only in that they start with A but that they are also 3 syllables long. It's not something I would do. Plus, if you have any other children would you feel obligated to use another A name, especially if it's another girl?

For me, even Max and Jack are too close for brother names and I wouldn't have used Jack (a family name) for the twin we lost if it was something we would have used everyday like we do with Max and Theo.

However, I will say Addison is a nice name, yes.
Thank-you GraysMama for my beautiful siggy!

I think Aly and Addy is cute, but you are definitely setting yourself up to have to continue a naming trend if you have more children in the future. I love the name Addison, but DO think it is fairly close in sound to Alyssa. It just depends on if you want to have a strong connection between the sibling names, or completely different "identities" for each.

They are very close...but I guess it just depends on if you like that or not. I have a good friend that also set herself up, when she had her first three girls they all ended up being K names...which she said she didn't intend to do, but when she had her boys then she felt like she had to keep going...so her kids ended being Kestry, Kambri, Kierra, Kyson and Koren...cute names though...I really like them!

I like the name, but I do think it's too close to your other DDs name. I personally wouldn't use it for that reason.

I do feel like its a little too close. Im not a fan of sibling names starting with the same letter though.

I think they're matchy but not too close to use. If you both love the name Addison I'd still use it but like mentioned above, you might feel compelled to keep up with the letter A / three syllable trend with future children.

I think the pair is adorable But then again my kids are all J's as are DH and I. We get TONS of compliments on it so I say go for it. Unless you wouldn't stick to the A theme with future kids. It would sound odd to me to have A, A, and K or something. The 3rd child would seem odd.

So if you're done having kids or you'd stick to the A theme, it's adrorable! If you wouldn't, I'd choose something else.

If you decide to go with something else, you could always consider Madison

Well, I think they are too close. I would get so tongue twisted trying to call for my kids! Aside from that, I just don't like Addison. It means 'son of Adam', is also the name of the disease and it's super trendy. 4 strikes and you're out. I think you can find something much nicer.

I think it is a cute combo.

I think they are fine as long as
A) you are prepared to give all your children similar names(Annabelle, Arianna...)
B) your next few kids are all boys
c) you are done having kids

I'm from a family of 3 kids and both my siblings not only have similar names but the exact same initials. It did affect me growing up, and to this day I am still irked at my parents for making me the odd one out.
